Bitch! evil:
There are a few very early Buddy Holly 45s and a Platters song in there.
-
Namely this one which was a cover of an even older recording by the Ink Spots.
We used to play it to end our first set every Saturday night.

That's the problem ~ memories get all mixed up with today and I get into trouble for "mooning about what might have been". I don't ~ in reality I am just remembering the girl and the fun we had. I wouldn't want it back because you can never go back but oh the memories!

After a gruelling 20 months of training we (49th Entry RAF Hereford) went through our "Passing Out Parade" in front of assembled guests (Families) and a dignitary to take the salute after which we graduated into the Adult RAF. For the first time we were permitted to march past the saluting base to the "RAF March Past". I promise I have never felt prouder and it still makes the hair on my neck stand up.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqpL6dEp5D8
-
The salute was taken by Earl Mountbatten and after the final march past to the above the Central Band of the RAF played us off the parade square to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZhWQqinZmk
300 voices sang the words (You know the ones)
Mountbatten laughed heartily and 300 new airmen received 7 days confined to barracks!
Probably the first time one Group Captain had issued such a punishment to so many!
Worth it though.

The elder of my two boys is learning to play the cornet (the younger is learning the clarinet) ~ they are both members of a local marching Silver Band.
Minor has just been practising all his exercises and again this evening he has finished with one that the Band do not play as he has been asked if, next year, he will take over duties hitherto performed by a member of the British Legion at our village war memorial on Remembrance Day ~ The old boy says he cannot go on and there is no-one else so Minimus is determined to be perfect at playing it. He practises this every evening and it take me back so far ........ It often brings tears to my eyes as the 12 year old gives it his all. He is nearly there but he says "I have to be perfect to do it".
I know I shall weep buckets when he does it for real.
Many passers by pause outside our house when he plays it.

Also from those nights at The Lamb .... Peter used to do this one to close his first set ~ he had worked up a version that he played against himself on one guitar (12 string of course)

How was the return of THW ? Is this the reason why calming mood music is required ?

I asked that earlier somewhere else rubschin:

Pretty much as expected really ~ non stop complaining about everything they saw, everything they did and everybody she went with ...... But she said it was a worthwhile trip
The calming music? That's because I feel wound up and ready to explode. Dunno if her return has anything to do with that Shrugs: ... I pissed off to bed and left her talking at her mother.
I asked that earlier somewhere else rubschin:
Did you? I forget, or perhaps I didn't read it yet.

His piano playing on Swanee River is brilliant.
-
I had a listen to a bit more of it last night, and Swanee River certainly stands out as the best track so far
-
At the moment Swanee River, Buddy Bolden's Blues , John Henry and St James Infirmary seem to be on a permanent loop in my head. At last, an earworm I enjoy cloud9:

Ladies and Gentlemen ~ Elvis left the world on the 16th August 1977.... but as far as I am concerned he lives on .... Simply the greatest voice ever and if you don't believe me just turn this one up and listen.
AN AMERICAN TRILOGY by ELVIS PRESLEY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R2oW-EKcKc#)
Nobody else could ever sing like that.
It will be played at my funeral.

Agreed Snoopy. I think American Trilogy is the best he ever did, my favourite by him was Suspicious Minds, and How Great Thou Art was played at an old friend (and pub landlord's) funeral. You just made me sad but smile at the same time happy088
