Title: Wot a Waste of Money
Post by: Barman on August 01, 2010, 08:09:06 AM
I'm staying in Epsom at the moment (until Tuesday when the good weather will undoubtedly appear  ::)) at the far end of the high street-ish...

Between us and the shops is a mahoosive car park... it is always at least half empty because it is soooo far away from the shops (well a few minutes walk). As you get closer to town the car parks obviously get fuller and fullerer...

Unsurprisingly, the dozen or so spaccer disabled persons who hold a blue parking badge parking places are always empty... I've never seen a spaccer disabled persons who hold a blue parking badge parked there. It makes sense, there are spaccer disabled persons who hold a blue parking badge places right in the middle of the town (and they can park on yellow lines anyway?  Shrugs:) so why would you park at the end of town and wheel/hobble yourself all the way in...?

This week the spaccer disabled persons who hold a blue parking badge places were all blocked with traffic cones... I assumed that they were going to be removed and leave more parking places for normal people...

But no... On Friday the council burnt off all the yellow markings starting at early o'clock and by the end of the day had re-painted them making the spaccer disabled persons who hold a blue parking badge places even bigger than before and taking up more of the car park...

I presume they had a surplus in the burny-off re-painty budget this year and needed to get it spent lest they'd lose it for next year...? Shrugs:

Given the current financial crisis, the person that could not spot that this was a completely daft waste of money should be hanged sacked immediately....   cussing:

I tried to get even onto the bottom rung out of three of the invalidity benefit system, as i am UNofficially classed and UNregistered as having a physical disabilty, but I was turned down. ::)

Fixed  whistle:

I have my theory as to why I was rejected, and my mate that WAS a motobilty sales specialist before he was 'released' agrees with me too. ::)
Wasn't even as if I was after a 'free' car either. Just the 15 snotters or whatever the lower rate is  these days, would have been a little bit of help  after a life time of paying and continuing to pay me taxes.

Serves me right anyway.
I should have taken the first option of two options the specialist gave me on that fatal day back in '97 p'raps, and decided to sit on me fat arse all day long feeling sorry for meself and claim benefits. noooo:

1) The cars are not fvcking free. The disabled person has to pay for a motability vehicle.
The Motability Scheme is a charity that leases the disabled a vehicle and payment is demanded monthly. The vehicle has to be renewed every three years, is restricted on mileage and cannot be driven by your wife unless she is driving you somewhere or performing some task associated with your care. (For instance she could not use it to go to the hairdressers when her car breaks down or the insurance would be invalid)

2) To qualify for a blue badge you have to be proved (medically) to be immobile. In my case I was assessed (and reassessed every 3 years) to be unable to walk, unaided and on a level surface for more than 75 yards (prolly meters now).

Since you proudly gallop up and down your me'ill on an almost daily basis you clearly do not qualify for a mobility allowance and any attempt to convince the authorities otherwise would amount to attempted fraud.

If (either of) you ever reach the stage where, like me and Miss C, you are unable to reach the local shops and return home on foot, a journey of 160 yards in my case and you can get a DSS medical board to agree that you have that level of disability (with  reviews every three years and snoopers secretly filming you whenever they get a complaint from some twat that another Spacca or Grib is actually more fit than they claim to be) I shall remind you of this exchange.

Calm down like....

 lol:

I am calm ~ it just pisses me off that people who should know better post things that are downright bloody wrong (not to mention offensive)
I didn't ask to be like this ~ no more than Growler asked for his health problems........
Which I would willingly swap with him if it meant I could kick a ball with my boys, climb a hill or, in all honesty, get out of the house more than once a week (usually to the doctor's).

In the past 12 months I have undergone 4 operations and been admitted (with blue lights etc) to hospital on no less than 9 further occasions. It just ain't funny. noooo:

You'll miss me when I'm gone.

PS I agree with your op. Disabled bays are a waste of time space and energy .... until you try getting  out of a car and into a wheel chair when some bastard has parked so tight that fvcking Twiggy would have difficulty in getting out of the door. Make all parking bays wider and make the able park further away from the shops is the answer.

It staggers me that: -

a) During a financial crisis they have the money to piss away on this...

b) While we are supposed to be driving ten miles less, switching our telly off instead of to standby and other ridiculous restrictions 'to prevent global warming' it is apparently sensible to send a whole crew of men in several trucks to burn yellow lines off with a gas powered torch...

c) While we are told that one whiff of cigarette smoke will kill you and smokers are banned from just about everywhere it is apparently safe to let acrid fumes from burning paint drift across half the town...

Shrugs:

Whooooooa. eeek:
I was never suggesting or even remotely even hinting that you don't have a valid case for your claim. On the contrary, I know you do, so stop your bloody bellowing at me please.
I also do in fact know that the motabilty scheme cars are NOT free, they are paid for by the taxpayer, and the user of said car has to forfeit his monthly allowance payments as a consequence.
I've had to repair many of these thouroughly abused cars before they are returned over the last 15 years, and I can guarantee many of them have been and probably still are beingused fraudulently. cussing:

I chose to get on with my life, climb 'ill's, werk etc rather than spiral downwards into a pit of self pity and it was the right decision.
Some like yourself are not so fortunate, and i appreciate that.
Tell that to the other 75% (at least) who just see the whole invalidity bebenfit scheme as some sort of free ride by lying on the 5 million page book you have to fill in first.

Sorry if I've offended you with the use of my words, and feel free to call me absolutely anything you like.
I can guarantee 100% no offence will be taken here

I blame the government ~ My rant was directed at all who make comments ~ not Growler in particular. Thing is I get sick of hearimng it day in and day out. Now the bloody government are crowing that they are going to make every claimant go through a more rigorous test. It will not make any difference! Most Doctors (and your application has to be signed off by your GP in the first instance) have nothing to gain from telling prokies .... they pay taxes too. The problems lie not so much with the claimants but with the system.

Money to burn? They seem to have plenty to waste on about everything except the real essentials.
