So the jury decided GUILTY and the speculation is now (i) How long will he get and (ii) will he survive it.
Even his defence team seem to have lodged an appeal more in hope than expectation.
Personally I think he deserves a lengthy sentence for his sheer arrogance if nothing else and they should lock up that wife of his too ~ BUT is his fraud any worse than Tony Blair's? Is his wife any more of a harpy than Cherie Booth?
When are we going to see those two in court?
Black committed fraud for personal financial gain
Blair committed fraud for personal aggrandisement
Is there really a difference or are we back to the good old principle of property being of more value than honour?

I saw some of the coverage of this last night. Andrew Neil saying that he did it because he thought he was god like and that laws were for the little people. Utter Utter bollards, he did it because he was greedy and thought he was smart wnough to get away with it and he deserves all he gets.
I also noticed his solicitor saying that they had been after a total acquittal and taht the result was a partial success. Oh really? Which part?

Mrs DS (#2) knew his wife (doh:) and she was a really nasty piece of work.
I didn't think much of Mrs Black either.

If they get 35 years for fraud out there and life means life plus the effect of consecutive rather than concurrent sentencing one wonders why the American prison system isn?t at capacity (let?s face it, they don?t execute that many).
Perhaps the new justice minister or whatever is in charge of the UK prison system could spend a few weeks in the ?States and find out what works? I?m guessing building loads of prison cells is at least one element of the effective formula? whistle:

It's been a long time coming...
Black was first educated at Upper Canada College from which, according to Tom Bower's recent biography Conrad and Lady Black, he was expelled for selling stolen exam papers. He then attended Trinity College School where he lasted less than a year, eventually graduating from a small, now defunct private school in Toronto called Thornton Hall. He continued his education at Carleton University (History, 1965). For a time, Black attended Toronto's Osgoode Hall Law School. However he dropped out during his first year of study. He eventually completed his law degree at Universit? Laval (Law, 1970), later completing a Master of Arts degree in history at McGill University in 1973.
A chancer at best ratified with a Blair peerage ::). Down you go, matey. Next contestant please.

With the increasing trend to make the 'sharp' boy 'n' girls up to lords these days as rewards for all the ducking and diving that gets anyone else into jail, it's hardly surprising that the core values of the aristocracy are going to be seen to slip a little.
They are going to live to regret not defrocking Archer when there was a will. They've blown it now...
Just as the Labour wide boys start to look for their new ermine it all becomes a bit tainted - shame.
But the truth is - There just isn't any kudos in a Lordship any more, it's all got a bit tacky and implies you are not so honourable after all.
