Title: What a shot!
Post by: Pastis on May 03, 2010, 04:50:42 PM
The last time I shot competitively was a few years ago at a TA barracks, very much a friendly event but I was pleased with the result and me old marksman skills hadn't completely deserted me  whistle:
The longest range I encountered was the 1000 yd at Bisley, no telescopics, just the eye on the distant target and guessing for wind velocity. If you were down the butts you could hear the whistle, crack, thud as the bullet ended up in the earth bank  razz:

This guy is astonishing!

Not sure if it's in this report or the Sky one but allegedly he had to aim 6' above the target and 20" to one side for trajectory and wind.
Hats off to him!

Achieved annually throughout my service, shooting with one of these:

To qualify for the RAF Marksman Badge (with extra pay) one had to group five successive shots in a target so that the holes could be cover completely with an old penny (about 1inch diameter) at 250 yards. No telescopic sights.
