I think it's a straight fight twixt Labour and Conservative here. Nobody else stands a hope.

Used to be Conservative here but the last Tory member (Sir Anthony Meyer) rather blotted his copybook by (i) Having a very public affair with his Secretary and (ii) Standing against Mrs T (as a "Stalking Horse") thus paving the way for her eventual demise. One indiscretion could be forgiven but both .....  noooo:

Kate is the best sort of MP ~ don't care what party .... she speaks her mind and votes with her conscience.

She's been the MP since '89 and each and every election the other parties field a fresh contestant... to no avail. You can add consistent to her strengths too.

Just skewered a campaign poster for the Rt dis-honourable slave labour MP A.Miller, then set fire to it.
Most satisfying.

My study window overlooks  the Polling Station or GORSAF BLEIDLEISIO as they like to call it.

I can report a steady and continuous stream of electors since they opened at 7am.
We look to be on track to match our previous 76% turnout.

Translation for those wondering:

Gorsaf is Station .... thus we have Gorsaf Dan for Fire Station, Gorsaf Heddlu for Police Station etc. (Remember that a single F is pronounced as V in Welsh, dd is pronounce th and u is i or ee depending on context)

Bleidleisio looks like something BM has made up but I am assured it means Polling or rather "Place at which to cast a vote" which is typical of the sort of problems I suffer trying to get to grips with the bloody language here.

I don't see how, if she is supervising a polling station, she is going to be able to achieve an internet connection. Such things are strictly verboten!  nonono:

Depends if she is in a church hall or a school .... Church halls don't tend to have internet connections and schools usually lock their classrooms when they are being accessed by the public. Unless she has carted a laptop and dongle with her it is unlikely that we will hear until well after polling closes at 10 tonight.

I hope she does let us know "from the sharp end" as it were but I feel it is unlikely.

I have assisted at one of these in the past and the officer in charge would not even allow mobile phone use in case the user was "telling the media" something.

PS the Heddlu have just gone in over the road. Usual visit to ensure all is well and to scrounge a cup of tea. Don't see why it takes two of them but for a change and to appear "non-threatening" they have left their baseball caps in the car and put on proper helmets. Still wearing stab proof vests and all the kit hanging off their belts tho'.

Title: Re: My Ward

In this ward a straight fight twixt Tory and Labour. Labour currently holds the seat with a majority of 4600(ish) but are looking iffy.

I suspect the higher the turnout the better it will be for the Tories. They know there are large areas that they haven't a hope in (The North East and Scotland for example) but if the Lib Dem vote goes up it will be at the expense of Labour seems to be the consensus. The Tory core is larger than either at the moment but the old problem of winning the popular vote but not getting enough seats will come into play. The whole boundaries business needs looking at.

A local has just parked outside my house, got out of his car and, clutching his polling number card, was wandering around the outside of the Chapel (yesterday's polling station) looking evermore bewildered.

He has now approached a passer by who is laughing. Said local is looking sheepish ............................ He has looked again at his polling card .............. he is getting back in his car and is now on his mobile ~ presumably blaming his wife.  happy001
