Title: Phobias
Post by: Just One More on April 21, 2010, 07:46:19 PM
Mine is of dentists

Before Monday, the last time I went to the dentist was June 1990 when I had to give in to toothache and have one that had been aching for weeks removed. On that occasion they had to have a Dr present to give me a valium injection in the arm to keep me calm through the procedure

The weekend before last, one of my front teeth snapped in half leaving the root still in the gum. So, on Monday evening I spent a nervous 20 minutes in the dentists while he came up with a treatment plan

Tomorrow lunchtime I have to go and have the remainder of the tooth filed down so that he can fit a denture. Needless to say, I'm petrified, bloody ridiculous really scared2: scared2: scared2:

So, what are your phobias..... and go ahead, post pictures of dentistry, they can't be any worse than I've been receiving at work  cussing:

I share your fear of dentists but modern dentistry has come a long way in the past few years. In the past, and because I have this implanted defibrillator dentists have been reluctant to treat me and most have referred me to the nearest Dental Hospital ~ in your case I should think Southampton might be the place, in my case it has been Liverpool. There they have people on hand to administer drugs as necessary and they are not far from the nearest Cardiac unit. Much to my surprise I have had 8 teeth removed by them with no problems. All the teeth removed had "crumbled" ~ they think as a result of taking Beta Blockers for years (every drug to do you good has unwelcome side effects)
Valium was always their drug of choice straight in through a vein and then a 'local' in the gum to remove the tooth/teeth (on one occasion 3 at once).
When they replace my implant they use exactly the same Valium and 'local' mix. I don't fear that half as much as the dentist which is stupid because the dentist is only sorting out my teeth .... the cardiologist is actually inserting a wire into my heart and attaching it to the ventricle with a sort of crocodile clip. Far more dangerous if his hand should shake. At the end of June I am to have ablation therapy (look it up) ~ same drug combo.
