Title: Gordon Brown calls 6 May general election
Post by: Barman on April 06, 2010, 12:07:14 PM
We're off!

Quote from: BBC Web Shite
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has confirmed that the UK general election will be held on 6 May.

Flanked by his entire cabinet, Mr Brown said it was the "least well-kept secret of recent years".

He said Britain was on the "road to recovery" and urged voters not to put it "at risk"

One of the prime movers was on "Today" this morning. Bleating the usual tosh about how downloading was robbing the artists, taking bread from the mouths of their families etc etc. They had some other bloke on there who pointed out that Internet Cafes would end up going out of business and that many people share an internet connection and to cut them off would be a ridiculous action to take if only one of them downloaded something.

We have one internet connection in this house. It is used for Work (Wife), Business (Me) School Work and Research (3 kids) We all use it wirelessly and simultaneously. THW or one of the boys could easily download something and infringe copyright laws without me knowing and get us "cut off". FFS I could do it myself by posting a YouTube clip or picture in here. They could, under this law, cut me off, deprive the family of employment and school related use and, presumably, come after the site for allowing it to be posted. Taken to extreme they could cut the internet connections for everyone who had viewed the offending material.

Of course "They" say this is not their intention but we have heard that too many times to believe it.

"They" said that the Anti Terror Laws were to only prevent us all from being blown to Kingdom Come and promptly used them to evict an 80 year old pensioner from the Labour Conference for telling Jack Straw that he was a liar ..... when everyone knows that is the truth about Straw.

If you ask me the only way to protect your copyright on anything is to NOT PUT IT ON THE FVCKING INTERNET IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Although much of the material is ripped and published from 'hard' copies illegally....

However, I believe that if copyright owners charged a more reasonable price for their product the great unwashed would be happier to pay it...

Quite frankly, some of the prices charged for music CDs and movie DVDs are outrageous....

CDs cost pennies to produce in volume and DVDs not much more... given the vast numbers they work with, charging twenty-five quid for a copy of Avatar after they've already received millions in box office receipts is outrageous - there is no wonder that people download a free copy if they can...

The digital rights bill was cooked up by Mandy and Geffen at a meeting at Rothschilds in Corfu apparently, strangely enough its the record companies that are geting the better part of the deal. Now call me a cynic but I can't help but wonder what Geffen offered to set Mandy off steamrollering this through parliement. Unfortunately for Mandy and co the UN declared internet access as a basic human right so I'm just waiting for the first instance of someone getting cut off without any evidence or due process turning round and using the HRA to fight back with.

His mealey mouthed hag came here canvassing during some election campaign 2 or 3 years ago, and I laid into her (verbally) and told her to get her horrible little husband 'round here pronto, as this THUG wanted a serious 'werd' or two with him.

Gordon Brown admitted that he had "lost" the prime ministerial election debate on presentation and style.

The Prime Minister said the first three-way debate last Thursday had "thrown the campaign wide open".

But he also insisted it wasn't an "X-Factor talent show" and the debate hadn't yet moved onto issues of substance like the economy.

On BBC television's Andrew Marr show, Mr Brown said of the first debate: "I think it's energised the campaign. It's thrown the campaign wide, wide open.

"People thought it was a closed book to start with. I lost on presentation. I lost on style. Maybe I lost on smiling...

"Some may think I'm a sort of a tough headteacher, I don't know.

"But I've learned at the end of the debate, substance will come through."

Mr Brown will be prepared to meet more ordinary voters rather than party supporters, following the criticisms from rank-and-file members, Iain Watson says.
He will also take more questions and answers on Labour Party policy from undecided voters in various locations around country.
Mr Brown told the BBC "you always have to up the tempo" during a campaign.
He said he has "always done the right thing" meeting people and will carry on meeting more people, talking about the economy and public services.

Quote from: Constantly Furious
At the end of a long, misguided and ultimately futile war, the misguided and insane Authoritarian leader Adolf Hitler eventually retreated to his bunker and took his own life.

It appears that the Labour Party intend to take a leaf out of that his book, and do exactly the same. Party suicide. End of the road.

Well, how else can you explain the fact that Labour have announced that from now on, Gordon Brown will be a "a more visible presence" in their general election.

What? What the fuck? Broon is the main reason the whole campaign's floundering in the first place, and the main reason that Labour stand no chance of victory.

He's got a personal popularity rating deeply in negative figures, sitting in the league tables just below Bernard Manning, and giving family butcher Fred West a good run for his money.

He is also completely, utterly incapable of interaction with other human beings. His manic fake grin would scare highly-trained police horses into bolting, for fuck's sake: imagine if he tried to kiss a baby?

When asked the simplest of questions he reels off enormous lists of irrelevant and largely false statistics: how's that going to go down on the doorstep when some old dear asks why her winter fuel allowance hasn't come through and has a huge list of imaginary investments in military equipment bellowed at her in a Scottish accent?

So surely, putting the man the most of the country loves to hate at the forefront of a failing campaign is a not-very-subtle way of raising the white flag, while simultaneously rummaging through the pockets for the cyanide capsules? Surely?

Or do they still think they can win this? Let's ask that most mindlessly loyal of Labourites, salad-dodging, toilet-breaking John Prescott, shall we? When asked on Radio 4 if thought Labour were currently on course to "storm ahead to a great victory", Prescott replied:

"No they're not - but you've got to fight for it.."

And if Prezza's given up, it's really is the end.

Pass the Labour Party that service revolver, would you?

Watched this on the news ~ truly toe curlingly embarrassing. I have never seen a man so out of his depth as Gordon. The bit where the Elvis impersonator came up behind him and gurned at the camera as Gordon was trying to "connect" with voters was hilarious. I formed the impression that "Elvis" was more interested in promoting himself than in helping Gordon Brown.

So .... if you disagree with Gordon Brown you are bigoted and if you agree with him you are, without doubt, an arse ~ Think I'd rather be called a bigot.

I hear in the news that Gordo is going to 'dig deeper' before election day. You'd have thought he was in a big enough hole as it is.  lol:

Just when Gordo thought his immigration gaffe couldnt get any worse,  Blears has admitted uing an illegal immigrant in her campaign team.

Quote
Former Cabinet minister Hazel Blears has been using an illegal immigrant who is facing deportation on her campaign team.
Rhoda Sulaimon, who is originally from Nigeria, has been leafleting for the Labour MP in her constituency of Salford, Greater Manchester.
The revelation is another blow for Labour, whose open-door immigration policy has already faced much criticism this week after Gordon Brown called an elderly lady in Rochdale concerned about the subject a ?bigot?.
Miss Sulaimon took the position to try to stay in the country, a Labour campaign source said.
He told The Sun: ?Rhoda has been working voluntarily for Hazel Blears in the hope it might help her case.

?She doesn?t want to go back to Nigeria and is desperate to stay here. She?s been helping out for weeks at the local campaign office and has been out with Hazel when she meets people and goes out leafleting.?

Miss Sulaimon came to Britain on a student visa five years ago but has remained in the country after having her daughter, who is now four-years-old.
It is believed that she has been living on benefits in a council flat.

On April 16, Miss Sulaimon was served notice by Home Office immigration officials saying she had 30 days to report for deportation. All previous appeals had been exhausted.

Last night, Mrs Blears admitted she had no idea her employee was an illegal immigrant.

She said: ?I had absolutely no personal knowledge about the situation whatsoever and in fact I?d never met this woman until she walked off the street to volunteer to stuff a few envelopes about three weeks ago. I certainly do not, and never have, condoned illegal immigration.

?If you check my record in the various posts I?ve held, I?ve cracked down hard on immigration. In terms of this woman Rhoda, I have instructed her to leave the campaign, and she has gone.?

Mrs Blears said she has informed the Border Agency of Miss Sulaimon?s situation for fear she might try to go into hiding.

She said: ?I told her that if she didn?t have any right to be here she should go. She was upset. I?m concerned she may go underground or leave her accommodation. I have therefore contacted the Border Agency and spoken to the chief immigration officer.

?I?ve told her she should go back to Nigeria voluntarily and I want the process speeded up so she can go back as quickly as possible.?
Miss Sulaimon declined to comment
