Title: Earth Hour
Post by: Miss Demeanour on March 26, 2010, 08:39:56 AM
On Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 8:30 p.m. local time, Earth Hour will once again cascade around the globe, from New Zealand to Hawaii

Since its inception three years ago, Earth Hour?s non-partisan approach has captured the world?s imagination and became a global phenomenon. Nearly one billion people turned out for Earth Hour 2009

I'm sure BM will organise another power cut in recognition of the occassion and will want to minimise his contribute to all things global warming, energy saving and  be politically supportive  whistle:

But what would you do in the dark on a Saturday night for an hour ????

So how many do they claim? ..... 1 billion? .... How do they know?

And how many makes a billion?
Quote
If you are American, it is undoubtedly 1,000,000,000. This amount is known to traditionally minded British people as `a thousand million', and by some more adventurous ones as a 'milliard', though this word has not made as much headway in English as in some other European languages. A trillion is then 1,000,000,000,000, and so on.

If you are British, on the other hand, a billion may be 1,000,000,000,000 (a million million), following the older convention.

If you are neither British nor American, you can take your pick! (Both systems were invented by the French, but are called 'British' and 'American' for convenience.)
