Title: Emoticon strangeness
Post by: Nick on July 06, 2007, 08:37:05 AM
I just appended a new thingy to my sig and wrote the word "smile". Instead of the word the smiley emoticon appeared! Most odd.

It will. The emoticons are based on key werds...or summat. confused:

I'll see if this werks to demonstrate...

confused:

Yea it does. I simply typed in the werd confused with the two dotty things after it and there you go!
Just type in the werd that appears under the emoticon when you preview your post...EXACTLY as it appears, and it should trandform it automatically for you.
Amazin' in'it?

As Growler said, it depends on the two dotty things after the word. It must be your good grammar Nick.

Colons or semi colons or summat...I dunno. ::)
I always thought they were something to do with your bowels or other fiddly slimey inner bits and giblets tbh. sick2:

Good grammer gets you into trouble anyway imo.
Just say it in GROWLER language, and you won't go wrong...like. ;)

Sorry, I wasn't having a go or anything Growler.

BTW I'm due for a Colonoscopsy week after next. Oh what fun!

Because you are all old!

I've already been for blood tests this morning.  sad24:

It's an age thing. The older you are the more you get preoccupied by health matters.  sad24:

Well they managed to get some out at last. I have bad veins apparently.  sad24: So no, probably not.

No offence taken...at all! I'm the first to admit that my knowledge on these matters is sadly lacking, but hey ho, I'm learning thanks to this and other forums. Even my spelling's improved 10x over the last 4 years after being constantly pulled up by some of our more learned friends.
Mrs GROWLER insists I spend and waste so much time on this thing. I keep telling eher NO, it's an education in more ways than one, and I AM right.

It's character that counts anyway, not where you stick yer apostrophy. ;)

You carry on watching Corrie my little petal. ::)

Good luck next week Uncle. Not had that part of my anatomy checked out...YET, but had various other internal inspection unpleasantries in my time. sick2:

Oooh! I 'ad one of them. Not painful but not pleasant. If they offer valium say yes please! I said no 'cos I was driving. The chap next to me slept all through the procedure and then some.
I then made the same mistake when I had an endoscopy. Some people never learn!
Now I say yes please to anything they offer.

Today I have to go to Cardiology to have my ICD downloaded. That'll be fun  noooo:

Next Friday diabetes clinic .... more f*cking needles and like Wench I have "difficult" veins.

Why won't they listen when I say that the left arm is better for blood taking?  sad24: Why do they insist on poking about in my right arm only to give up after 15 mins and say well let's try the left shall we.  sad24:

Perhaps the right arm is nearer to your colon, so they wont have to poke so far?

As far as the Endoscopy is concerned, maybe your left arm is nearer your Endo.

No doubt Snoopy can advise.

I know dear I know..... One Nurse took 17 attempts until she agreed to call in a doctor ~ who did it in one!
They just will not listen. I have blood tests every three months and have done for ten years. You would think they'd accept that I know which vein will give and which won't but OH NO! Nursey Knows Best!  evil:
Now I say take it from here and point to the vein on the back of my right hand. If they try anything else I get up and walk. It's my bl**dy body for God's sake ~ I don't care how many lectures she's been to!

No doubt Snoopy can advise.

Endoscopy = pushing a tube down your gullet.
Colonoscopy = pushing a tube up yer arse.

The left arm is closest to the heart and I suspect given the litigous culture we live in there isnt a health professional that would take that kind of chance.

Endoscopy is the general term for pushing a tube with camera and a light from either direction. A gastroscopy is the term for an exploration down the gullet.

I shoud know as I've had both, a 'top and tail' they called it. First one end then they turn you round and do the other end. I assume they give the tube a wipe down between.  eeek:

At the top end some very nasty bugs ~ not Hiatus Hernia but might as well have been ..... similar drug treatment for rest of natural. sick2:
At bottom end 5 Poyps in the bowel that had to be removed. Fortunately none was cancerous (Anxious wait for biopsy result) but I have to be rechecked every five years as I am now deemed "at risk". scared2:

Well you did ask.  point:

Oh and I have been to the cardio difib clinic this afternoon and my magic box is working well. All downloaded and AOK so that's that for another three months. Only the Cardio and Diabetes clinic next Friday and if that checks out I'll feel a bit happier.
I await an appointment with the spine specialist and the ENT man. The former for back problems (obviously) and the ENT to see if he/she can do anything about my tinnitus.

Christ I hate getting old!!!

You always say that! evil:
What's the point of being ill and not telling people about it? Huh?
I can't wait to start telling people how old I am ..... what is the correct age to start that?
I know that one is age sensitive up to about 19 then it doesn't seem to matter until you get to the upper seventies when it seems de rigeur  to say things like "I'm 85 you know" to all and sundry and for no apparent reason. I just want to be ready before they start saying "who is that old fool sitting in the corner dribbling down his shirt front".

OH! redface:

Haven't had any os these 'scopy thingies, but did have an angiogram/angioplasty - very strange to be lying there seeing pictures from inside your heart
Title: Re: Emoticon strangeness
Post by: tel on July 06, 2007, 03:12:14 PM
A follow up - (for Nick) - the camera used in an angiogram is inserted into the artery in your groin and then pushed upwards until it reaches the heart. You get a local knock-out for the groin but the rest of you stays awake. You think it would hurt like hell, but arteries have no nerves, so no pain.
