The mother was spotted ignoring the danger signs beside Rushmere lake on Wimbledon Common, south-west London.
Onlookers said she and the girl spent about ten minutes on the frozen water, on their way to a ?3,000-a-term preparatory school, The Study.
Two teenage boys were later seen leaping up and down on the same ice-covered lake, spending about 45 minutes trying to crack the surface ? before eventually giving up.
Another used a large wooden stick in similarly fruitless efforts to break through.

Seems like it's the sign that's in the wrong. rubschin:

You'd be happy to walk your kids across a frozen lake then would you Unc eeek:

I'd be happy to send the Braty for a walk across a frozen lake eveilgrin:

no, I'm merely pointing out that the ice obviously not thin. Anyway, my two are far too sensible to do something like that.

They may well be but this was a little girl being led by her mother , who had taken the time and effort to protect her against the elements and then walks her across a frozen lake. Granted the ice may have been quite thick in places but that is no guarantee for anything

People are stoopid - simple.
How many end up in A&E after sledging into a tree, wall or a crowd of people.

I never thought I would see the day when the VP had pro-nanny state posts. noooo:
Kids need to climb trees, walk on frozen ponds, crash sledges etc. to learn what is dangerous and painful.
Sadly, a tiny number will be badly hurt or even die, but the rest will grow up with some degree of experience and common sense.
They might even look after and warn their own progeny to be careful instead of looking for maximum compensation cash. evil:

Agreed but NOT led by their mother.

Seconded. Sledging into that tree never did me any lasting harm. Nor that accident with the big knife. Or the golf course fire. Or those leeches.

"Mum, I am going to walk across the pond"
"No dear you mustn't, it could be very dangerous"
"Well I just am, all the others are doing it"
"OK, I will come with you to see you are all right"
"Thanks Mum. Why are you printing out that YouClaim form?"

If memory serves, that pond on the common is only about 2 feet deep at most. Even if they did go through, I can't see a tragedy happening.
