As a child in this sort of weather and much worse of course we used to get chilblains, in modern parlance, we used to suffer from chilblains. Where have they all gone have they flown south for the duration of global warming or have they become extinct?

Wenchy you are far too young to remember chilblains but they are painful and used to be very common, at least in the houses we lived in pre central heating.

But what do they do/look like?
They are like little red carrot- Hold on, they're chillies.... redface:
-
Central heating, fitted carpets and motor cars saw them off I think.
Cold and wet feet dried in front of a fire were the main cause according to my mother who also blamed hot water bottles. I remember people used to get them between their toes and fingers in winter...... looked very painful, weeping sores and split skin. I managed to avoid them prolly because of Mother's constant warnings.

I just remember being warned if I didn't wear my slippers or sat on cold walls I would get them! eeek:

Surely the cold wall was piles, that's what my mother told me, not that you would get piles if I sat on cold walls obviously. confused:

Sitting on cold walls would give you polaroids surely.
