Title: Sorry. I'm behind the Chinese here

Look, they have their rules, we have ours....lily livered generally speaking. sick2:
They've warned us to stop interfering and accept their judicial system, and I think that's fair enough regarding this matter.
Drug smuggling is drug smuggling, and if you do it in country's where the penalty for being caught is death, then so be it I say.
All quite simple really ey? ::)

Quite simples!

It makes me larf when politicians tough talk with China - they did fuck all after Tianamin Square and they'll do fuck all now...

Behind the scenes they'll be sucking China's cock in return for more trade...

The whole situation seems a bit bizarre - the fact that we take the moral high ground and preach about human rights is totally hypocritical.

This situation has just turned into an embarrassment for the government. They have had all their requests for clemency ignored and China couldn't give a fig what we have to say. Why should they - hence the mud slinging begins

As for the man in question the issue over whether his bi-polar disorder distorted his view of reality to the extent he was genuinely duped in this situation isn't that the way most drug empires work. Prey on the weak and vulnerable.

I can understand why his family fought to get a reprieve and are dismayed his mental health was never assessed. However his guilt was never in question.

The government are going to have to reduce their outrage to a mild huff fairly soon as they will not want to risk any long term damage

I agree completely, hearing the government taking the moral high ground and demanding that he has a psychatric assessment before being sentenced made my blood boil. I have one thing to say to those hypocritical bastards. Gary McKinnon, you had no qualms about packing him off to America despite having Aspergers Syndrome (a form of autism) which means you have no moral authority in this case. So shut the f*ck up and stop trying to score points with the voters. And yes I know you can argue that there is a difference in the 2 cases but the basic principle is still the same, you can't demand an assessment for one person and completely ignore the results for the other.  Angry9:

And still they do not learn. fresh from having about as much impact as a billious fart against a mountain in dealing with the Chinese Gordo is now giving public support to Suu Kyi. When will this useless scottish tossmonger realise that if he wasnt wasting so much time trying to make himself look like an international statesman and actually did his job then perhaps this country wouldnt be as terminally screwed as it is. noooo:

Now don't get me wrong, I agree in principle in supporting her but Gordo is seen as a joke by most foreign governments. They havent followed his economic plans out of any other reason than if/when it all collapses they have a convenient scapegoat to save their arses with.
