I've realised (or perhaps remembered) something with all this current kerfuffle that the reality of download speeds etc is actually determined by distance from the exchange and the state of the wiring. All the flannel about hoooge speeds is worthless until you know the facts on the ground. surrender:

I was paying too much for too little but it was one of those "I'll get around to switching at some point" things and the time has come. Mind you, the proof of the pudding etc...
I'll see what the switchover's like, performance etc and then comment.
The first thing I read (on their forum) is that their router is a bit iffy so I'll being using my own and their's can stay in the box.

It's branded as the Be*Box; you could prolly find out more about it than I could. The one I use is a Linksys which is apparently capable of ADSL2+ and has performed sweetly since it was first plugged in.
I enquired about it on their forum about an hour ago and have just had the thumbs up from a 5* user so fingers crossed.

I am with Telecom plus. I pay Line rental ?10 per month, Broadband ?16.95 per month (unlimited). This includes all my UK telephone calls land line to land line. Premium rate numbers and mobiles cost but still less than BT.

The all new BE box modem is on its way, allegedly. According to their email I can track it on the DHL site 8).
I shall be tracking something next week that, if and when it arrives, won't be useable until the week after and even then I have no intention of using if I can tweak my existing Linksys. Oh, deepjoy ::)
The BE box modem is a Thompson in disguise apparently Shrugs:
-
You may not be aware of this but the late Alan Clark MP revealed in his diaries that "Family Slang" for a having a sh*t was doing a Thompson. whistle:
I'm sure this is a coincidence

Your welcome pack with your BE Box will be shipped on 18/12/09 and will normally arrive between 21/12/09 and 22/12/09. Please ensure that you are able to receive the BE Box between 8am and 6pm (if you are not able to take delivery of your BE Box, the courier will leave a note for you to arrange later delivery)
It's arrived eeek:. It's arrived four days before it was due to be shipped eeek:
Some kind of timewarp methinks rubschin:. Oh, and it's definitely a box of tricks, not a "Thompson", Snoops.
-
What could go wrong...? scared2:
-
Hopefully nothing ... until next week when big Mr BE* decides to activate the new feed on Monday.... or Tuesday ... or Wednesday...
scared2:
-
Migrated... connected... but at somewhat less than the lightning speeds they predicted ::)
Still, it's better than previous.
