Title: Mind games
Post by: Miss Creant Commander of the picklement and baking BAb(Hons) on November 18, 2009, 11:00:56 AM
There is a huge and very old pine tree of some sort in the garden here.  The wind has blown down what I assume to be the flowers.  They are a greenish/grey colour and about the size of my little finger there are hundreds of them all over the paths.  They look like hoooge maggots.  I know that they are not maggots, I know that they are plant matter but still I find myself cringing as I walk over them and trying not to squash them. evil:

Another sort of mind game:

There are eight identical looking balls on the table in front of you along with a set of balance scales. (One of the balls is actually a bit heavier than all othe others) You don't get to touch any of them, you just tell me which balls to put on the scales. I will do two weighings and then you must tell me which is the heavier ball. (Each side of the balance scales is big enough to fit as many balls on it as you like)

Answer here (block to see clearly)

Weigh six of the balls, three on each side of the balance. If it remains balanced then one of the two remaining balls is the heavier. Put those two on the scales to show which it is.

If one group of three balls was heavier put any two of those on the scales, if they balance the other one of the three is heavier or if they don't then you can see which one tipped the scales.

simples!

OK then if we are into balls. ~ The traditional sign for a Pawnbroker is three balls but why does one hang lower than the other two?
