Title: James May, Toy Story
Post by: GROWLER on November 17, 2009, 09:46:18 PM
Well I tell you, this fellah is fast becoming one of my favourite TV presenters.  happy088

Did you watch his world record beating Scalectrix circuit around Brooklands and the associated area that has now been built upon.  eeek:
Absolute riveting watch.
His overflowing enthusiasm, dedication, and no give up attitude shine through like a shining beacon amongst all the durge currently on the box.

Well well done Mr May. You thouroughly entertained me with a constant grin of childhood dreams and overwhelming delight for the full hour.
You are a star, and I sincerely hope this will be truly recognise at the TV awards ceromony, for best light entertainment and educational programmes of the year by a country mile. happ096

Yep .... Totally agree... watched him tonight. Real family entertainment. First time I can recall that all 5 of us sat down together for a hour without any arguments, in fact not a word was spoken until the programme ended when all said what fun it had been. Even the world weary THW enjoyed it and there can be no higher praise than that!

Only sounds here were gasps of gleeful delight from me and Growler jnr.,as the cars went over the jumps, over the pond and up the spiral section to the top of the Sony building.

Best programme of the year, or even decade for me at the moment.

My fear is that Minimus is now looking at his figure 8 track and  rubschin:

I see an amendment to Santa's letter coming.

Lord knows what Minor will say when he sees the Hornby Train layout which will put his 4ft x 8 ft double track with sidings etc into the shade.

Oh yes.
I'm going to build a new track direct to Mini Moose's school to beat the school run.  happy088

It's Scalextric, not Scalextrix!

Lego house is last program.
Built at Dorking, in the vineyard, I believe.

I know, I know. I deliberately spelt it wrong to see if anyone would pick up on it. ::)

Why didn't they build the house at Legoland in Windsor. Wouldn't that have been a tad more sensible don't you think?
I'd luv to have seen it.

I'm going to suggest that he flies a model 'plane around the werld for the next series.  rubschin:

James May walks on water!! happy088

I don't know why they picked Dorking, but legoland originally agreed to take the building to Windsor afterwards.
Unfortunately they balked at the cost of dismantling and moving it, so it was demolished. Shame.
I had hoped that the vineyard might have kept it.

Well if they were willing to take it on after, why the hell didn't they just build it there in the first place!

I'm no quantity surveyor like, but even this bloody halfwit can see the sense in that. ::)

If I recall correctly (and that is a big IF) Legoland had "issues" with the idea of letting all the people involved wander about their Windsor site, which is a huge revenue earner for them, for free so they made excuses about (i) Elfin Safety, (ii) Insurance (iii) Sundry other details that they wanted to quibble over when the programme makers just wanted to get on with it.
Personally I don't think "they" realised the following the James May was going to get for the series.

Of course you do know this was all shown on BBC 2 back in October don't you? I saw the Hornby one then but missed some of the others.

There is a chat room for Retrobikers that has a discussion about it all at http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=76574

Legolands great loss. Someone amongst their management has made a total cock of the forecasting here.
I for one would have been down there like a shot to see it. cloud9:

Been before. Great place btw.

Indeed ~ What would Brunel have done if he was around now?
Quote
Brunel?s Box tunnel, near Bath on the Great Western Railway, was 1.8 miles long, took four and a half years to build and employed at its peak 4,000 men and 300 horses and used a ton of candles and a ton of gunpowder a week. Ten people died building half of the tunnel, between 1839 and 1840.

Thought this might be a nice idea for the Mrs G's pending birthday, and Growler jnrs treat for passing his driving test next wednesday hopefully.

http://www.scalextric.com/news/2009/11/3/james-mays-christmas-toy-fair/

Price of the train tickets for the 4 of us soon put that idea to bed though...plus overnight B&B, plus spends. ::)
Be cheaper to fly to Rome for the weekend. ::)

Shame as it looks good.
You southerners could go and report back though if you wish. happy088
