They last no time if you keep the charger plugged in (as everybody does).
I replaced the battery and then the charger on mine earlier this year - found both on Amazon at a very good price...

"They" claim batteries will last three to five years with proper use.
Mind you ........ if you wait three to five years from buying the laptop you'll find batteries are no longer made to fit that model. Banghead

Aaaah I see ...proper use and a 13 yr old may not go hand in hand noooo:

What is the definition of 'proper'?

What is the definition of 'proper'?
I believe it's to be found in the manual. Hence nobody knows. ;)

If the battery is truely knackered, try putting it in ia freezer bag and leaving in the freezer for a couple of hours. That sometimes helps reset them apparently.

I was told that was now an utter myth and it should have no relevance to the battery life.

The last time I took a laptop with defunct battery into my local "Wefixyourpooter" shop the two lads that run it ended up arguing whether the story about running it on mains 95% of the time would shorted battery life or not. Things got so heated that I left whistle:

In my experience, if leaving them plugged into the charger doesn't affect the batteries life then the batteries are shite to start with... lol:

The reason there is confusion is that previously it was the case and some people whistle: have not moved with the times. ;)

Never the less the battery was well fooked and the lap-top was old. New batteries were not to be had but Uncle Mort put me onto a supplier. The replacement battery was ?85 + carriage and VAT ~ I bought a second hand laptop from Bigpockets instead. redface:
