The horrors of this summer: crap weather, builders and no holiday (apart from the hippyfest evil:) have had me quietly fantasising about a brief escape. After my mysterious illness (see elswhere) years ago I took off alone for some convalescent time to this island (see below).
I love Greece cloud9:
A tiny island
A little harbour
Boats
A couple of tavernas
2 or 3 restaurants doing fresh fish and suchlike
Perfect weather
A nice hotel http://www.greeka.com/sporades/skyros/hotels/skyros-linaria-all.htm (http://www.greeka.com/sporades/skyros/hotels/skyros-linaria-all.htm)
All the time in the werld
Read, sleep and swim cloud9: on my own little private beach

I could do with some of that right now.
Where would you rather be?

Volendam

Why?
-
Anywhere but here right now....... cry:
but some time alone, somewhere hot , with beautiful beaches, coves and harbours, gorgeous scenery , a really good book and great food would be most welcome on the prescription.
-
You must come with me then eveilgrin:
No chance of most of that in Cyprus ::)
-
No chance noooo:
The sound of the bike being revved in the garage at 6 am in the morning will need some direct action evil:
-
Potato+exhaust pipe. Simples
-
Why?
Because I love Holland, I like the Dutch and Volendam has many happy memories. I have spent weeks there over the years and know good bars, good seafood eateries and places to stay. Also it is only a few hours drive into Amsterdam which is my favourite city.
-
I had some nice times there (Skyros) alone then took Mrs Nick there before she was Mrs Nick and shagged her on that beach in the middle of the pic.
btw Google camera vans have just been past my house. I was chatting to the 5* MILF at the time evil:
-
Too much information....the beach stuff that is eeek:
The being caught flirting ...that is just excellent lol:
-
We were just, um, chatting like
And the beach shag was a long time ago sad24:
-
Your mouth may have been moving but your mind was certainly elsewhere whistle:
-
I remember many similar conversations with Mrs S#1 including one which she ended by saying "Well, if you are not having an affair you're thinking about having one!" shocked003 ~ How the f*ck do you counter that?

She wasn't that good a Catholic girl then? whistle:

It's OK so long as you tell the priest all about it ~ apparently whistle:

I notice that this thread has wandered off the beaten track. ;)
I've been pondering this question and as Miss D wrote:
Anywhere but here right now.......
Time to get serious about giving up working in the City.
-
The problems with giving up working in the City are:
(i) You miss the "buzz" that you aren't even aware of once you have been there for a few years.
(ii) Pay rates elsewhere seem pitiful by comparison ~ although the costs of "going to work" are also lower but you don't notice that until at least a year later.
(iii) Wherever else you work you piss people off either because you have worked in the city or because you find them so slow.
(iv) You have to change your conversation mode to suit your new colleagues or they get even more pissed off with you than you are with them.
(v) Once you are "out" it is nigh on impossible to get back in and you will want to get back in.
The best answer is to make it a complete lifestyle change, not that I would recommend North Wales but that sort of idea.

Another view from here. I spent 25 years in London and loved it but it drove me mad in the end (transport/traffic/parking). Mrs Nick commuted to Greenwich from Kingston on the S Circular or M25 (both equally frightful) and I spent my life on the A3 noooo: We sold the house there and moved oop North (Mrs Nick to a job admittedly - which is the main problem). Much bigger house for the same dosh, better quality of life (and schools) and when I go to London now I make time to wander, see films, friends and so on and get more use out if it than I did when I lived there (at least for the last ten years). Best of both worlds cloud9:
Rather be in Greece tho evil:

Mrs Nick does that riff too. Weird noooo:

I swear they must be related. noooo:
If I hadn't met my Husband in Law I'd be certain you'd married my ex from the things you say.
-
I werked with a woman (I use the term loosely) in London who was challenged in various ways:
Ginormous
Beard (ovarian cysts) noooo:
False teeth
Brillo pad hair
Poor dress sense
But we got on well and had to work together a lot. Mrs Nick was CONVINCED we were having an affair confused2:
I knew she was shagging someone who was blind happy001
After I left there I worked with another woman (I truly prefer women to men as mates). I was barred from seeing her after hours (early years of marriage noooo:). There have been more noooo:
-
TBH I ignored her and carried on as I wanted. Just had a row whenever we happened to meet in the house (which in the latter years was not often)

Lake Massaciuccoli, Italy
Spent a very pleasant few hours there recently.

That is the trouble with cruises I spose. An hour here or there. Still if it's shite you don't have long to wait happy088
I like Southwold too cloud9:
and Walberswick cloud9:
-
Anywhere warm & sunny but will settle for North Devon in a couple of weeks. cloud9:
-
I can't find the pics I'd like to post (will try later) but:
? Cura?ao, Dutch Antilles - sun, snorkelling, beaches, biatches, fine fresh food, oh, and Snoops, it's Dutch eyes:
? Tourettes-sur-Loup, just above Grasse in the Alpes Maritimes. A fine, hill top, mediaeval village which we renamed Swearing-sur-le-Bog. I rented a house there with some friends there many years ago and one of the chores I recall having great pleasure with was to trundle the 5 gallon glass carboy up to the vinicole for a refill. There were 3 pumps, just like a regular petrol station only they were named Blanc, Rouge and Ros? lol:
"Alors, 25 litres de Ros? encore, Monsieur?"
"Oui, Gaston. Nous avons un soif diabolique aujourd'hui!"
"Pas de probleme, Monsieur Pastis. Ca fait 12 francs."

I have gone all wistful reading these posts cloud9:

Umm holiday.... cloud9:

My perfect hideaway is my mousehole in Cyprus...but... you cant beat a good walk on Exmoor with a dog to keep you company. Stout walking stick with a roe deer antler head. No signal on the mobile. Excellent country pub...Bliss... cloud9:
-
Give me a small English Harbour any day, a proper pub, and a good restaaurant... job sorted
Mrs JOM and I are off this week. Yesterday was spent in the New Forest at Lymington, then Beauleiu anf Lyndhurst. Today we're heading out Chichester and as far East as we feel (Rye is always nice) and Thursday is likely to be Beer (the village) in Devon

Beer is lovely cloud9: - the village not the brown stuff
-
We once considered taking a pub in Seaton (just up the road from Beer) but decided in favour of one elsewhere. Last time we went down there (last year) the pub was a Chinese Restaurant. eeek:
Still a nice part of the world tho.
-
Aaahh Seaton - many happy summers there as a kiddy wink cloud9:
