The public have been asked to 'snoop' on shopkeepers who continue to sell traditional light bulbs banned by Europe.
From September 1, it will be illegal to import conventional pearl or frosted bulbs of any shape or wattage. Traditional incandescent bulbs of 100 watts will also be banned under European law aimed at reducing energy bills and carbon dioxide emissions.
They will be replaced by energy saving lights, which usually use fluorescent tubes, but it is thought some consumers will still prefer their 'traditional' bulbs, particularly for reading lamps.

It is not enough that you have no choice in the bulbs you use... now your neighbours will be checking up on you to see that you don't have an illicit reading lamp in the house... noooo:

Hahahahaha!
I just noticed this in the Telegraph story...
Nick Herbert, the Tory environment spokesman, said it was a waste of taxpayers' money.
"People will be incandescent about such a waste of public money. At a time of economic gloom this proposal will create more heat than light."
Nice one Nick! lol: lol: lol:

I was talking to a guy this morning on my early morning walk...
He commented on how the windows in houses in the UK were so much smaller now - energy saving whatnot...
I suggested they'll prolly bring back a window tax soon... Bizarrely, it is just the sort of thing the one eyed Gorgon would think of... noooo:

Houses in the UK are generally being built smaller nowadays anyway. Used to be 8 to the acre. They now try to cram in 32. Smaller houses do not need large windows. That is why I live in an older house.

What anti-candle rants?
As long as they aren't scented I have no problem with them.

1st of September ehh, better stock up on the 100 watts bulbs then.

I bought loads of real light bulbs (DELIBERATELY evil: ) when Tesco were flogging them off cheap earlier this year. We have several years' supply.
So will I be arrested?
