Google is developing an operating system (OS) for personal computers, in a direct challenge to market leader Microsoft and its Windows system.
Google Chrome OS will be aimed initially at netbooks, the low-cost portable computers that have turned the PC world upside down.

Woo-hoo... that sounds a brilliant idea - make an o/s for laptops and up scale it for PCs - most excellent! cloud9:

I see it is going to be based on Linux

No, linux can be tiny and very efficient...
I guess the issue will be how much compatibility with windows will be built in...? And how many drivers will be available... It will be useless for me if it doesn't support the plethora of HP printers that we posses for instance...

Love the idea but if it doesn't support windows programmes then it isn't really going to be much good. Although I suppose that is why they are aiming it at the netbook population.

Support seems to be growing. Perhaps Microsoft will feel the pressure from this after all.
