This bloody heap of electrical shite is playing up YET again. It's about 6 years old now and I'm wondering if it's finally and gradually throwing the towel in. rubschin:
If the phone rings, the 'puter invariably crashes, and it sometimes takes about 3 attempts to log on to aoHELl's homepage when I fire it up.
Sometimes everything loads up dead quick like, then all of a sudden it all slows down.
What's that all about then? pcwhack:

Well six years is a long time in this day and age to own a computer. Plus aol?!?!?!? Why do you think they have the nickname they do!

If you have not upgraded any of it in 6 years then it is probably time to buy a new PC.
It has got to be worth it considering the frustration the present one is causing you .
My mum has AOL on her PC - I find it so infuriating when I use her compuer Banghead

Why would the phone ringing cause it to crash? Didn't think broadband acted like that?

One wire should go into the broadband router and thence via another wire to your PC.
If there is a telephone type wire which goes from the telephone type socket direct to a modem built-into your PC that might cause the issue....

This is what BM bought for his kid. I had the previous generation at work and it was great for three years, I now use it at home too and it is still going strong.

Trouble is, if I get a new one, what happens to all the stuff stored in this black box computery type thing with 2 flashing green lights on it.
I might lose you lot and all the other forums and favourite places I visit, not to mention all me documents and worky type things and piccies and stuff like that we all have in here. sad32:

Connect the old and new machines together with the cable and the software will move all your settings, e-mails, etc. from the old one to the new one.

I was having loads of trouble with my old pc Growler and it was driving me nuts evil:.
I am not technically minded but bought a new one from EBuyer last year and put it all together myself and it works like a dream. If I can sort it out I am pretty sure you can.
The mini mooses will also probably know a fair bit about this as well and might be able to help.

At one time Dell was strictly "Buy on Line" or rather "Buy over the Phone Line" but about 12 to 18 months ago they finally realised that people in the UK get pretty p*ssed off with having to talk to someone who sounds like Ian Paisley (because their sales dept was in Ireland, presumably for tax purposes) and they did a deal which means you can now buy Dell at PC World (or Dixons as it used to be known). Mind you for all service issues you still end up talking to someone claiming to be called Bob or Janet whose real name is Ranjit Patel or Sunetra Shah and who is in Bombay.
The one advantage to UK customers in buying Dell products from PC World is that you can at least take it back and throw it at someone when it goes tits up. Also they can no longer hide behind the fact that the UK Sale of Goods Act doesn't apply in Ireland ~ as I found out when I complained about their service to my local Trading Standards.
I know many have had a good experience with DELL products but personally I wouldn't buy one if they came with a free car attached.

Transfer all porn personal stuff to a USB flash drive and re-format the thing (or get Option A man to do it)

And I agree with the rest, buy a new bugger. Prices a dropping through the floor at present.

Beware Dell. My neighbour has just bought a new one. He's had horrors with the Inidian call centre demanding all kindsof information from him to prove he is not involved in money laundering !

Dunno. Is a little white box that the phone line connects to? If so, yes.....somewhere. It was buried under a mound of shite under me desk last time I saw it.

By coincidence, AOhelL have just rung me on an unrelated matter, and they are sending me a new one with their compliments to try and resolve the problem.
Came back into the 'fridge' and this thing had crashed again, presumably cus of the phone call. ::)
