Title: Respect for the dead
Post by: Snoopy on June 13, 2007, 11:19:42 AM
We live opposite one of two churches in the village. Naturally this provides a front row seat for weddings, funerals etc. Being a village the road is narrow, with parking permitted in marked bays outside of the church. When there is a funeral the church has cones placed to prevent parking in order that the Hearse etc may draw up and unload/reload the deceased. Whilst this is in progress the mourners tend to stand around and follow the coffin into the church and on departure the mourners will wait for the hearse to move off before following it in their own cars.
So why do idiots insist on trying to squeeze their vehicles past the hearse, abuse the mourners for getting in their way, hoot their car horns etc? Why overtake the hearse in what is a 30mph zone anyway? Why try to overtake the cortege by passing one car, pulling in sharply then overtake the next and so on until finally they get behind the hearse and then keep tailgating until they get past that as well?
Don't they realise they'll be traveling in a hearse themselves all the sooner by driving in that stupid fashion on country lanes?
Have we lost all respect in this "modern" society?
I know the dead have no feelings but the mourners do.
