The European Court of Human Rights has spoken with a strong and clear voice - retaining indefinitely the DNA and fingerprint records of unconvicted suspects is unlawful.

Gordon & Co forget that these Euro Judges have experience of the Germans and their methods of recording everything and everybody. The UK was not overrun in either World War but those that were can see where this sort of database, in the wrong hands, can lead ~ and they quite clearly believe that Gordon's bitten fingers are the wrong hands.
-
Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, said she was “disappointed” with the court's ruling and added that all existing DNA would remain on the database until ministers considered the judgment ...“The Government mounted a robust defence before the Court and I strongly believe DNA and fingerprints play an invaluable role in fighting crime and bringing people to justice"
They don't give shit what we think, they don't give a shit what the ECHR think, they believe they don't have to answer to anybody, it really does sicken and anger me
-
Yup, a court decision goes against them and they seek to ignore it. The arrogance is, unfortunately, believable.
-
I can't see how they can ignore it. They may bluster a lot but in the end they will have to give in (prolly very quietly)
The 17 judges of Strasbourg's Grand Chamber were unanimous in their ruling, and they emphasised that the government must follow it - because on this issue it does not have much "margin of appreciation" or leeway.
The court said the UK was the only one of the 47 members of the Council of Europe to permit the "systematic and indefinite" retention of DNA samples and profiles from people who have been acquitted, though within the UK the arrangements apply only to suspects in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
However, the court signalled that the government should consider following Scotland's example.
The position there, said the judges, was of "particular significance".
Storage times
DNA profiles in Scotland are deleted once a person is cleared or not prosecuted. The only exceptions are for people suspected of certain sexual or violent offences. Hundreds of thousands of people who are already on the database, and have no criminal convictions, will be entitled to have their records removed

I agree with JOM - they don't give a shite what anybody thinks... They'll just slide in some new layer of legislation that will make it 'lawful' in some way... noooo:
-
Then we must stop them. Vote for someone else.

I hate to break it to you BM but the Monster Raving Loony Party stand a better change of making it into No. 10.
Their manifesto makes interesting reading, scarily enough I caught myself thinking "thats not a bad idea" at some of them.
