Title: Current top ten
Post by: Just One More on November 09, 2008, 10:20:20 AM
TG's recent mention of Blue Oyster Cult prompted me to look through the Cd's and come up with my current top ten. My top ten can change from day to day, I can listen to classical (but can't remember one piece from another), I sometimes get goosebumps listening to Pavorotti, 60's music can be a joy, 70's, 80's and early 90's bring back great memories, and as can be seen from my current top ten below, rock/guitar music are my favourite genres. I've restricted my list to one track per artist, so in no particular order

Estranged - Guns 'n' Roses
Heroes - Dave Bowie
Honky Tonk Women - Rolling Stones
Don’t Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
Rough Boy - ZZ Top
Feel the Benefit - 10cc
You Shook me All Night Long - AC DC
Waiting for an Alibi - Thin Lizzy
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Don't be Afraid of the Dark - Robert Cray

Quite impossible JOM, but here goes... it's a bit like Desert Island Slipped Discs! Since I enjoy love a wide variety of music I've chosen 2 from 5 genres for the current top ten. The criteria is that if I hear them I just have to stop and listen... for that moment, nothing else matters.

CLASSICAL
Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, 2nd movement, Frederic Chopin (1829)

Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major, 2nd movement, Dimitri Shostakovich (1957)

JAZZ
Petite Fleur - Sydney Bechet   http://www.last.fm/music/Sidney+Bechet/_/Petite+Fleur

Tanya - Dexter Gordon   http://www.last.fm/music/Dexter+Gordon/_/Tanya

ROCK
All Shook Up, the Ry Cooder version

Won't Get Fooled Again, The Who... as loud as bearable

OPERA
"E lucevan le stelle", 3rd act of Tosca, Puccini   http://www.last.fm/music/Giacomo+Puccini/Tosca/Puccini%3A+Tosca%3A+E+lucevan+le+stelle+-+Cavaradossi

"Che gelida manina", La Boheme, Puccini.   http://www.last.fm/music/Giacomo+Puccini

FILM
Cinema Paradiso, Ennio Morricone

Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, Michel Legrand

Just the tip of the iceberg...
