Do you think they know you are coming!?!?!?
Are you taking your blackberry?
-
No wallet, no ID, no phone, nothing but cash.
-
Right, I'm off to catch something called a train, followed by something called a tube.
Mrs TMR (to be) is under strict orders not to report me missing for at least 48 hours, should I not return.
-
May the force be with you.
-
Who's gonna be the first one in here to show their bare arse to the cam then? whistle:
-
The cam isn't werking ::)
-
Now it is!
-
Excellento!
-
Fine 'ere, but nowt seems to have moved for the last 20 minutes.
A man could get an exceedingly cold bottom waiting for the piccy to refresh. ::)
-
It refresshes every 10 mins apprently. We could miss everything evil:
-
Ooh! A act of civil disobedience ~ how exciting! ...... If I had a flag I would wave it.
-
Ooh! A act of civil disobedience ~ how exciting! ...... If I had a flag I would wave it.
Have a whippy, and I'll be more than happy to go down there and have 'UP YOURS BROWN' inked on me bum like. eveilgrin:
-
Pity, I shall be in London tomorrow. Shame it's a day late. noooo:
-
Immaculate timing as ever Nick ~ it's not as if OH and TMR had not given enough notice ::)
-
I am being paid to go to a meeting tomorrow (First Class travel cloud9:) which someone ELSE has arranged for Nov 6th
-
So you could have travelled a day early and gone for a walk. Too late now of course.
First class travel eh? That's the one with the "silver" coffee pot and the greasy antimacassars isn't it?
-
No, hound. I have to be here today for Boy related duties evil:

Where is that one from?
Don't worry.
-
Christ they were arrested.OH was right. Full report form TMR soon one hopes, once his DNA and fingerprints have been taken of course.
This is cussing: cussing: cussing: cussing: cussing:
-
I honestly don't believe it. How on earth can you be stopped and searched never mind arrested just for walking along whilst wearing a mask?
Mrs TMR is going to be soooooo unimpressed.
-
The whole point was about peaceful protest and civil liberties. It is clear that they have gone.Irretrievably gone
-
I honestly don't believe it. How on earth can you be stopped and searched never mind arrested just for walking along whilst wearing a mask?
Mrs TMR is going to be soooooo unimpressed.
You can be arrested for walking in a group or even on your own within a certain distance of the Houses of Parliament IF the police "believe" you to be making a "protest".
Another one of Tony Bliar's elastic laws that can be stretched to cover any damn thing the police want ..... despite any assurances given by ministers to the House at the time.
-
It really is quite horrifying. I suppose I've just been terribly naive. eeek:
-
You and a great many others I'm afraid.
This is one of the many Blair laws that Cameron has said he will scrap ~ time will tell but don't hold your breath. Read Orwell's 1984 instead .... it's all in there.
-
I actually feel quite sick. What on earth have we come to?
-
Most of the uk has been sleepwalking into the Orwellian nightmare we are now facing and Brown isnt going to be and different. That tantrum throwing power hungry arse will hammer through anything he thinks will help him solidify his power base. The only reason he hasnt used the parliament act yet is that there isnt much time before the elections is due. If by some travesty Brown stays in office just wait to see how soon after getting reelected he decided to push legislation through using the act.
-
I actually feel quite sick. What on earth have we come to?
The most surveyed, filmed and recorded nation with the most restricted rights of citizens outside of North Vietnam might get somewhere close to describing our situation. That's what more than 12 years of Labour Government gets you. I said so when they were elected but few listened.
-
A large part of the problem is that Labour have created a large uinderclass who are perfectly happy to keep voting them back in if it means they can spend their days sat on their arse taking handouts instead of getting a job.
Before anyone complains, especially in light of recent redundancies I am not saying that everyone currently out of work is like that, but there is a large proportion who are long term unemployed and have no intention of getting a job.

See I can see that. I understand that and that is one of the reasons why I have a problem. I know about the CCTV, I know about the clandestine survelliance and stupidly I thought it really was for the greater good. It never occured to me that it would all be used against "normal" people. I'm an idiot, I've had all the information and it never really registered.
I am guilty of the "when they came for me there was no one" line of thinking I suppose.
-

[serious]
Sorry to belittle your concerns, but this is nothing new, the only difference is that the world can see it all courtesy of the Web, lightly censored TV and mobile phones with cameras.
In the 50's the same protest would have resulted in a quiet arrest for 'drunk and disorderly' followed by a short tumble down the steps to the cells and 4 lines in the Times.
It may actually help 'true liberty' if the folly is visible to the masses.
It was newsreel coverage influencing public opinion that finished the Yanks in Vietnam and can you imagine how long WW1 would have lasted if they had the Somme on Youtube the next day?
"Mass Media for the Masses, a benefit or a curse for Democracy" - discuss. . . .

-
December 2005:
Maya Evans was convicted for breaching the Parliament protest ban
Maya Evans wanted to ring a bell for every British soldier killed in Iraq
A peace campaigner has been convicted under a new law banning unauthorised protests from taking place within half a mile of Westminster.
Maya Anne Evans, 25, a vegan cook from Hastings, was found guilty of breaching Section 132 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act.
She was on her own, standing by the Cenotaph, reading the names of dead soldiers from a piece of paper and they used the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act against her.
-
This is getting quite serious now.
-
No ~ it only gets serious when we do what the French do ~ Burn cars, tear up cobbles, break a few heads etc. Then we may be listened to.
-
An afterthought ~ If Guido, OH, TMR et al had not been blasting this all over the internet they might have got away with it but it will not take much to convince a court that this was indeed an organised protest that did not obtain a licence.
-
It depends on how it is used Darwin. If it us done responsibly then it means the public is more aware of the consequences of political choices and abuses of trust by the people who we have elected. With the Blair and Brown governments we also saw the dark side of that potential, personality politics and the manipulation of the media in order to spin events their way.
As for the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act it is a good case in point. Originally spun as a tool against terrorism and organised crime we now see the abuses that tell the truth behind the lie.
Soon, if the communications database becomes a reality I can see sites such as this one coming under intense scrutiny just because people here have strong views against the government and its policies regardless of the fact that nothing that has been said on here is against the law.
-
Exactly.
The Thought Police are not far away.
-
They are already here Snoop, the only saving grace at the moment is that the government are so incompetent when it comes to personal data that they are more like the Keystone Kops.

I offer no objection at all to making all information available to the populace at large and letting them make up their own minds.
However, I sought to point out that it is a double-edged sword because it can invoke both positive and negative feelings and consequences.
My big fear is that manipulation of opinion by skillful propagandists using the media will exploit the less educated population into doing the wrong things.
e.g. Germany in the 1930's.
-
And as a more recent example of the same thing the invasion of Iraq over so called 'weapons of mass destruction'. The sexing up of reports and suppression of information given to the media meant that there was enough popular backing for the attack that the long term ramifications were missed by the bulk of the public until it was too late.
-
An afterthought ~ If Guido, OH, TMR et al had not been blasting this all over the internet they might have got away with it but it will not take much to convince a court that this was indeed an organised protest that did not obtain a licence.
True but why does peaceful organised protest require a licence anyway?
-
Because the law passed by Nulabour says so ~ no other reason is needed.
Not what people voted for I'm sure butbthat's what they got.
Anywhoo ~ where are the reports of this? Nothing on the Google News pages, nothing on the BBC News website.
-
That, Wenchy, is a question for your elected representative. Try it!
-
True but why does peaceful organised protest require a licence anyway?
Basically its a stealth tax on the right to protest, which would also explain why people who dont have a licence are dealt with a hell of a lot faster then people who commit other 'crimes'.
-
...where are the reports of this? Nothing on the Google News pages, nothing on the BBC News website.
There probably won't be. We only know because we have a 'connection'. I wonder how many other minor protests/arrests there are that we never get to hear about?
-
Bugger!
And the Times no longer reports the London Magistrates hearings (mind they haven't for a good few years now)
-
AhHa! It's all here folks

used to laugh at the old lefties in the pub, who over a half pint of real ale and some roll ups, would berate the old bill as 'fascist tools of the establishment.' Now, I know they were right.

I doubt even if all had gone well that he would be back yet, but under the circumstances who knows?
-
No word from TMR yet, probably in a hostlery somewhere.
If he's not still in handcuffs I expect to see him later - Mrs TMR permitting, of course.

I got my membership pack from the Libertarian party today - we should all join... whistle:

TMR is not used to public transport, he will probably come out in some allergic reaction.

With a bit of devious planning you could scupper that licencing law. After all whats to say that a 'protest' isnt in fact a piece of performance art, something not covered by the law.. rubschin:

It has been tried ~ the definition of a "demonstration" under the act apparently is that if a Police Officer THINKS it is a demonstration then it is.
According to the law permission has to be sought and obtained before any form of demonstration may take place.
Guido actually covers all this in his suggestion that people might like to "Go for a walk" ~ which is probably in itself an advertisement to attend a demonstration under the very elastic terms of the act.
-
Don't write me off, the IRA tried that and lost as well.
We were stopped and searched. The PCSO's that tried it in the first place were out of their depth, so called in the proper ones. They were O.K. - understood that we were merely "having a walk" but had to search us in case - photo of the Form 5090(X) attached where it says I was searched under the Section 44 Terrrorism Act 2002. There is so, so much more to say about this incident...
I wasn't expecting the "Special Branch" follow up as I departed on this train thingy and was asked (?) to step off "for a quick word" at Clapham Junction. Or the tailing by one of them until I decided to get off at Wallington and jump in a cab.
Home now (obviously), but the home phone is making funny clicky noises....

-
We are all doomed, followed home? For what.Oh yes, you are suspected terrorist.People have been shot for less
-
So by telling us we can all expect to be "followed up" over the next few days then ~ my phone isn't clicking yet.
-
The only person allowed to shoot me is Mrs TMR (to be). 8)

Gently or otherwise?

We spilt up - the "non dressed-up" were generally on the other side of the road, taking piccies and getting out of the way, so as not to make too much of a speactacle.
The tourists loved it though! It's very odd having lots of photos taken of you, becuase at office "do's" the official photographer would always pass me by and concentrate on the good looking ones cry:

All this talk reminds me of a time when I was interrogated at the American Embassy in Grosvenor Square. It was about the time of Watergate and I was applying for a visa to go to the US for the summer. Normal form filling until they decided to "ask" me to an interview eeek:
Interminable questions... much beady eyed staring from officials and uniformed guards... more questions...
I really thought it was going to be just a formality, but no. After about half an hour I felt like saying forget it but eventually the visa was granted.
That's what you got for going on a demo and knowing someone who'd joined the Communist Party noooo:

Indeed they were. The one of the guy wearing the medals was quite poignant. He must wonder about what he and his comrades fought for, as our freedoms are being removed at an ever increasing rate. TMR et al, I take my hat off to you
