Britain's economic downturn is likely to cause a recession, Prime Minister Gordon Brown has warned.
The global financial slowdown was likely to send the British economy into a recession as well, he told MPs during weekly questioning in Parliament.

No shit Sherlock! Banghead
I think we all know there is a recession in the offing - what are you lot of troughers going to do about it - that's what we want to know! ::)

Gov of the Bank of England said yesterday that we are in recession.

No, I think he said a recession was 'likely'... noooo:
-
Checking a report in the Yorkshire Post yes he seems to have said "Likely"
but his emphasis is a little stronger than Brown's ~ who still seems to be in denial.

Bank of England Governor Mervyn King became the first major public figure to warn of a UK recession as he said the economy faced a "long, slow haul" to repair the damage from the banking crisis.
He told business leaders that the combination of lower take-home pay and reduced lending posed "the risk of a sharp and prolonged slowdown in domestic demand".
"Indeed, it now seems likely that the UK economy is entering a recession," Mr King said.

The answer to that one is simple BM, take our minds off the economy by rounding on George Osborne. Banghead

indeed... cussing:
-
Amazing and Mandy has only been back a week ~ seems like he never left.
-
Actually that is something about the whole story that I found curious. Everyone was rounded on Osborne asking what he was doing there. Rothschild was a friend of his from uni (not any more methinks) so it seems plausible that he may have been invited, but just what was Mandleson doing there?

Dirty work afoot methinks

Indeed... this is Mandy's doing and Broon is pulling Mandy's strings...

This recession's been on the way for months; it's been like a tsunami in the distance gaining ground every week.
HMG have been standing on the beach facing the wrong way saying No, it's not here. By the end of the month they'll be soaking wet, running around shouting Recession! Recession! and telling us all how they'll help us not drown ::)
Two of my neighbours have lost jobs this week; one has until mid November to find something else, the other's new job contract has been frozen indefinitely evil:
I've lost one contract this month due to US recessional action and cut back.
I reckon Mandy will end up being a scapegoat, resign for a third time and Broon will sidestep more accusations. evil:

As long as that's all he's pulling.
(sorry couldn't resist)
This Osbourne story is a real non-event. I doubt very much if he actually asked for a donation. It might have been implied that 'something' from one of his UK companies (Leyland DAF - Good Grief!) wouldn't be sniffed at but nothing illegal.
-
I agree Mort, I cant see anyone being stupid enough to ask for an illegal donation in earshot of the prince of darkness himself.

It's certainly gaining pace, I've interviewed eight people for jobs yesterday and today, three of then had been made redundant in the last three weeks, all from smaller companies. For every "50 - 100 job losses" stories we see, I suspect there are far more being made redundant at smaller companies
-
Three of my friends in the last two weeks. Brother Wench's work is way down too.

From a position of "retirement" I have to say I don't actually care what they call it. When you are as far down the food chain as a pensioner nothing much matters. Recession cannot hurt me anymore.

Well I hope none of us are directly affected... god knows there are few enough ads being clicked as it is... whistle:
