Title: SPIDERS!

Spiders with a poisoness bite have arrived and are apparently thriving in the West Country. Nasty looking buggers too.

 char062 EEEeeeeeeeeeeeK!

I hate spiders at the best of times. scared2:

The tube web spider (Segestria florentina), another non-native biting spider, has also been on the move, spreading from the South Coast much further north.

It is a large spider, measuring between 1.5cm and 2.2cm (0.6-0.9in), with green iridescence on its jaws.

Mr Hine said: "In spider terms, it has to be said that this is an aggressive spider.

"If you approach it, it raises its legs and bares its fangs.

"Most spiders will back away - this one will jump at you and bite."

I think you should be safe Nick, the animal kingdom is more in tune with its surrounding than we are so if there are any nearby they will detect the Nick-o-rays and bugger off as if there was a forest fire heading their way.

Having said that I dread to think what the Nick-o-rays could do to a tube spider...  scared2:

This morning, a mahooosive one in the bedroom. Eventually got that one out. I have just been to the bathroom and spotted a smaller one scurrying across the floor. The bastard got away behind the bog before I had a chance to capture it and bung it own in the garden. Then, as I went to grab a bit of toilet roll to blow my nose with, THERE WAS ONE ON THE BOG ROLL. About an inch and a half long. I ran into the bedroom to grab a glass to go and get it with and there were TWO MORE on the net curtains.

I'm being invaded  scared2: scared2: scared2:

To clarify Growler, I have no problem with spiders but the women of the household shriek and refuse to go into a room known to contain a spider. I am the official spider remover - they would be happy for me to stamp on them, but I won't kill them unless I have  to.

Spider 'the size of a small puppy' weighing more than 6oz with 2 inch fangs????   scared2: scared2:

Quote
Piotr Naskrecki was taking a nighttime walk in a rainforest in Guyana, when he heard rustling as if something were creeping underfoot. When he turned on his flashlight, he expected to see a small mammal, such as a possum or a rat.

"When I turned on the light, I couldn't quite understand what I was seeing," said Naskrecki, an entomologist and photographer at Harvard University's Museum of Comparative Zoology.

A moment later, he realized he was looking not at a brown, furry mammal, but an enormous, puppy-size spider.

While it's not mentioned on his blog something tells me they heard the scream miles away  lol:

And people want one as a pet???  eeek: eeek:
