Every once in a while I hear a song and find I'm changing the words to fit something going on at the time. Most of the time I dont do anything about it but sometimes, like today, the song will hook me and reqriting it will drive me nuts (the last couple of times were the redundancies from BT of which I was one and a special rewrite of bohemian rhapsody for a friend who was being lustfully stalked by the Mound of the Hound of the Baskevilles.
Anyway, so far I have:
Hello darkness my old friend
Electric bills are up again
I cannot afford light or heating
And Gordo's taxes are crippling
I'm open to suggestions here. (NOT those kind BM point: )

Ok Snoop, there is a song called the sound of silence (Simpn and Garfunkel if memory serves me correctly) that came to mind over the weekend after I heard about utility bill rises. The version that started going round my head had the lyrics in the OP.

Then one of us doesn't know the tune evil:
Hello darkness my old friend
Electric bills are up again
I cannot afford to light or heat
I barely have enough to eat
Works better with the tune methinks.

Thanks Snoop. I only had part of the tune going around. The first couple of lines and the new chorus, 'the sound of sirens'.

Bohemian Rhapsody was a hell of a lot easier to rewrite than this song. Banghead
