Well those who watched and marvelled at the Olympics Opening Ceremony on TV were well and truly "had".
Turns out it was faked. Computer Graphics etc What you saw on TV was not what was happening in the stadium. whistle:

Pity we got rid of Ken Liveingstone really ~ he'd have led the charge to fake something for 2012.

What happened in the stadium happened in real life. The fireworks that produced the 'footprints' really happened. Only the filming of the them was faked.
It was a great show and nobody was "had"

The global television audience of more than three billion people watched in amazement as a series of giant footprints outlined in fireworks proceeded through the night sky from Tiananmen Square to the Bird's Nest stadium - except they were watching a computer animation.
Stunned viewers thought they were watching the string of fireworks filmed from above by a helicopter.
But in reality they were watching a 3D graphics sequence that took almost a year to produce.
It even included a 'camera shake' to mimic the effect of filming from a helicopter.
"Seeing how it worked out, it was still a bit too bright compared to the actual fireworks," Gao Xiaolong told the newspaper.
"But most of the audience thought it was filmed live - so that was mission accomplished."
The designers even added some haziness to simulate the polluted Beijing skyline.
-
1) the programme was billed as live, I assumed that included pyrotechnics
2) was it filmed in a continuous stream to start with? If not it isn't even close to live
3) if they were actual fireworks why did the cgi require "jiggling" to replicate the judder of an aeroplane?

Does this mean that Monkey, Pigsy and Sandy are not real either? sad24:

The only bit that wasn't live (or real) was the TV feed of the 'footprint' fireworks. The fireworks happened but they felt it unsafe (?) to film them live so they faked it including the 'jiggle'.

It certainly ranks up there with "I'll be your's forever" as spoken on our wedding night by Mrs S#1 as a statement not to be taken seriously.

Yes ~ I had worked that bit out ~ they used to apply ECG machines in a similar manner ... in fact they still do in France but for what purpose on a swimmer's back?

I'd forgotten that! When I was a lad and had my check ups I used to get festooned with the suction cups which they then connected up to the ECG. Didn't leave marks though.

I can promise that the French ones did when I was in hospital in Paris. When I got back to a UK hospital they couldn't believe the "love bites" all over my chest.

I have had that done to me, but not that much noooo:

An ECG is never pointless surely? Even if it only proves that your heart function is OK it has to be worth finding out.

And on the BBC News this morning we learn that many of the "Crowds" of cheering spectators at Olympic events are not ticket buying members of the world population but "volunteers" who are being bussed into events where the organisers feel that the crowds are too thin on the ground to look good on TV. Apparently they can be recognised by their "enthusiasm" and matching tee shirts.
Let's be honest with ourselves here shall we. The Olympic Ideal is dead and buried. The Opening Ceremony shown on TV around the world by a single feed provided by China (no independent cameras at all) was, to be charitable, dressed up to appear more spectacular than the reality. The spectators at many events are not the sports enthusiasts they seem to be but co-opted members of the most oppressive and regimented regime on the face of the earth doing what they are being ordered to do and no doubt time will reveal once again that many of the competitors are performing to "enhanced" levels that have thus far escaped detection.
Yes I am cynical about the whole charade that a once proud ideal has become. Such a shame because I used to be a keen amateur sportsman myself, competing at various levels (mainly inter-service) in Boxing, Fencing and Rugby whilst serving with the RAF. Of course in those far off days we had a ciggy at half time and drank a lot of lager to "make the weight" when necessary so I suppose we were also "drug assisted".
-
I don't agree. The Olympic Ideal is not dead and buried, a little tarnished maybe but still strong for most of the competitors.
There are some (not many) competitors who enhance their performance with drugs as there are some (not many) events that are poorly attended.
