Thank you TMR.
Over a pint last night he was able to look in the other place and inform me of a nasty Microsoft Update which disables Zonelarm and blocks access to the interweb.
I knew that my problem was probably caused by this, as everything went pear shaped after a re-boot.
Update now removed and everything is now ticketyboo.
Will email MS with a bill for time wasted - won't hold my breath though.

Blimey! This must be the first time I've ever helped you with an IT problem. Yoda has chinks in his armour!

Wonder if they are continuing the 'accidental' incompatibility then. Make it sod awkward to get the third party stuff to work & the non technical use their security setup as its less hassle.

Still nothing from MS.
Have tweaked ZA so that it now works with the update.
-
Have now installed/upgraded ZA and everything is fine now.
Will be visiting someone tomorrow who probably has the problem, no interweb since last Wednesday.

Scotch Man or Scotsman? We should be told.
-
Scotchman is a perfectly acceptable (although underused) term for those in porridge wog land.
-
Not if you are a Scot it isn't.
-
You are a Haggis Hound?
-
No but my Great Grandfather was. I was raised to respect the fact that one drinks Scotch and fights Scots.
Given the "qualify by your ancestry" rules I could have played for three out of the four home nations.
My eldest son, by adding in his mother's antecedents, could have played for any of the four.
Fortunately neither of us were actually good enough to trouble the selectors.

Boer or Bleck?

She has just been on the phone. She had been told to remove ZA - I told her to get the updated version pronto.
