Title: That eejit McGowan is at it again
Post by: Grumpmeister on May 29, 2007, 04:38:11 PM
Ok can someone please tell me how eating a corgi is making a stand agains a hunt lead by Phil the Greek? The RSPCA has said that after an autopsy the fox wasnt unduly stressed and the only other witness to the event that would back up your description of the events refuses to give an interview.

A performance artist says he will eat a corgi live on a London radio show in protest at a hunt led by Prince Philip.
Mark McGowan says the meal is a protest at the alleged mistreatment of a fox which was shot during the hunt on the Queen's Sandringham estate in January.

"I know some people will find this offensive and tasteless but I am doing this to raise awareness," said McGowan.

After a post-mortem was carried out on the fox, the RSPCA said it had found no evidence of unnecessary suffering.

A man had been pictured in several newspapers apparently hitting the animal with a flagpole. He told the RSPCA he had simply turned it with his foot to see if it was dead.

"An independent post-mortem examination was carried out and found that the fox died from gunshot wounds - and no evidence of other injury or trauma was found," said the RSPCA in a statement.

"The only witness who could have supported the version of events reported in some sections of the media refused to give a statement."

McGowan, who is a vegetarian, said he wanted his unusual meal to raise awareness about "the RSPCA's inability to prosecute Prince Philip and his friends".

The corgi, which died at a breeding farm, will be prepared for consumption on the Bob and Roberta Smith radio programme broadcast on the London-based arts station 104.4 Resonance FM.

"We didn't want to make it really distressing visually," said McGowan, "so rather than just have the corgi roasted, they minced the corgi and they've mixed it with herbs and apple and bread and onion.

"It's going to be served in a pitta bread with a salad, almost like a kebab on a skewer."

The artist's previous work includes rolling on his side for four miles in central London in December 2002 to ask people to be "nice" at Christmas, and using his nose to push a peanut to Downing Street in protest at student debt.

I was touched to see Merton stopping short of eating "Fried Dog" last night  cry:

As for eating a corgi on 'live radio'... is there something I'm not getting here? Apart from the dog, obviously  evil:

It's a sort of Archie Andrews moment I suspect.
We all knew Peter Brough was supposed to be a ventriloquist providing the voice for Archie but none of us knew if his lips moved.

Isn't it about time that this current crop of - Well, they like to be called - celebrities were subjected to psychiatric analysis and locked away in the mad frog farm for the duration?

And their bloody loony employers too.  evil:

At the risk of eternal smitage I will admit to having eaten horse in the past, although in my defence I didnt know what it was until afterwards.

I think the difference here is that McGowan is claiming that the dog had died of natual causes at a breeding farm before he acquired the carcass whereas PETA were claiming that the horse Janet ate was treated cruelly insofar as it was put in a truck and slaughtered.

In fact PETA even approved of the stunt.

Performance artist Mark McGowan has eaten what he claims was a cooked corgi in a protest over the Royal Family's treatment of animals.
McGowan performed the stunt on London radio station Resonance FM, and shared his meal with fellow guest Yoko Ono.

"To me it was, as an art piece, exhilarating," he said after the show.

The artist's protest concerned the alleged mistreatment of a fox during a hunt led by Prince Philip in January. The RSPCA said the fox did not suffer.

McGowan, who is a vegetarian, said he wanted his unusual meal to raise awareness about "the RSPCA's inability to prosecute Prince Philip and his friends".

"We love our animals in Britain. Why is it then that we then allow people - especially people who are supposed to be ambassadors for this country - to treat animals with such disrespect?"

The corgi, which died at a breeding farm, was minced and cooked with apple, onion and seasoning.

As he ate the meatballs, McGowan reported: "It's disgusting. It's really, really, really disgusting."

The radio show's presenter, Bob Smith, said he was not convinced the meat came from a dog.

But McGowan said: "It's stinky, it's white-looking, it's not like any meat I've ever seen."

Some animal rights activists approved of the stunt.

"The idea of eating a corgi will make many people lose their lunch," said Poorva Joshipura, director of the European arm of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta).

"But foxes, who are hunted for so-called entertainment, are no less capable of feeling fear and pain.

"Most of the British public will agree that it is high time the royals joined the rest of us who live in the 21st Century and opposed to cruelty to animals."

The Royal Family has had a long association with corgi dogs.

The Queen has a particular fondness for corgis, and they have the run of Buckingham Palace - even in the middle of formal state events.

Janet Street Porter is dead?

Strange how they only seem to want to save the cute animals, I havent heard them raging against the beef industry.
Eels and squid should have just as much attention.

Obviously turkeys are a different kettle of worms altogether

Yes, the experiment had to be stopped early on.

LONDON (Reuters) - An artist who last week ate a meal of meatballs made from a dead corgi dog in a protest against animal cruelty said on Sunday his next project involved being buried in a box under a mountain of mashed potato.

Performance artist Mark McGowan, 37, said the corgi, which died from natural causes, tasted terrible.

Corgis are the favoured dogs of the Queen, who has owned more than 30 of them during her reign.

McGowan said he ate the dog because he was angry that the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, of which the royal family is a patron, had not prosecuted Prince Philip, the Queen's husband, for hunting and killing a fox. The RSPCA said the fox did not suffer.

Now McGowan is switching his attention from animals to vegetables. He told Sky News television that his next project would be an interpretation of the work of American illusionist David Blaine.

"I am being buried in a box -- a David Blaine type thing -- in Dublin underneath a metre of mashed potato," he said. He did not explain why.

He doesnt need to explain why, its obvious he's doing it because he is an attention starved gimp. Hopefully the stuff will set rock hard and entomb him.  whacky115
