Mind you, the Tory share of the polls has never fallen below 99.8% in any election here since Victoria was Queen.

At my Barnet polling station we were told that the ballot papers did not arrive on time due to "a problem at the printers". Um... how long have we known about this election?! Surely the ballot papers must have been printed weeks ago to be sent out to postal voters? And it was obvious when they did arrive that the officers had never had any training as they spent time sorting out the different forms. You couldn't make it up...

Labour suffers big council losses

Quote from: BBc Web Shite
Labour is suffering a grim night in local elections in England and Wales, losing more than 140 seats so far.

BBC research suggests the party has fallen into third place nationally with 24% of the vote, beaten by the Tories on 44% and Lib Dems on 25%.

So far they are the worst local poll results for Labour in 40 years

You do realise with your track record you've probably jinxed his entire campaign now.

I ended up watching the BBC coverage through the night (thank god I finish work at 1.30 today). I get the impression that the Beeb has been wanting to rip Brown to pieces for a while, they seemed to be going all out to take the mickey out of him when they were doing the comparisons over the last few years.

Either that or they were just dumbig down for the audience they thought they would get at 2am.

Labour ~ who came 3rd out of five
Cons 327
Ind    181
Labour 87
Lib/Dem 58
Plaid Cymru 56

Pathetic that to count that we have taken since 10pm last night but that is Denbighshire ~ they don't start until the morning after. Also pathetic that only 709 voted out of an electoral roll of 1898

I was tempted I must say. Not because I actually want them to gain power but because I wondered if the idea of them actually gaining support might lead to the proper parties actually taking notice of the issues that the BNP seem to be the only ones taking seriously. (Too seriously admitedly.)

So why is there not a party which offers said aims and policies, but without the crystalnacht undercurrent?

Partly to answer my own question, "reasonable" policies that we would support, such as real punishment in prisons, reduced benefits for scroungers and the workshy and so on, would be vote losers with the bulk of the electorate.

The small success seen by the BNP is mostly down to their appeal to the base instincts of some traditional English "working class", who would rather see the country rid of Pakis, Coons and Polacks at any price.

For a start i beleive the 'crystalnacht undercurrent' is not confined to the 'working class'. Far from it. Racism knows no social boundaries. And racism is what it's all about. With 22% of votes counted in each of the 14 electoral areas - Mr Johnson has the lead in 9 while Labour's Ken Livingstone is ahead in five.
London Elects, which organises the elections, says it expects the results at 2030 BST, but that could change.
Turnout is estimated at 45% - up from 36.95% in 2004.

Which is sort of what I was trying to get at. If the BNP polled more votes would a non-hitlertarian individual put together a party that wasn't all cryslanachty? Or even would one of the major parties take notice and adopt some of their more "normal" agenda.

It is now 1600 hours on the day after the election. I know that some councils like to "race" to get their results in but here in Denbighshire there seems to be a perverse pride in taking as long as possible to do the count. So far all but one Ward has been declared ..... a total of 42026 votes have been counted and some 30 spoilt papers. What has taken them so long? I swear there can only be the returning officer and two clerks to do the job.
They still have the Community Councils to do. What's the betting that they adjourn at 1700 and put that task off until Tuesday?

Labour             7

Liberal Democrat    1

I agree with you…

I’d like to see the BNP get a large %age of the vote. They are unelectable but such an event would give a huge kick to the other two parties.

We all know that if Labour get kicked-out at the next election the Tories will get in and there will be… more of pretty much the same. Green issues, tax, the environment, etc.

We need them to learn that Joe Public doesn’t really give a toss about the number of plastic bags that Tesco give away but does care that HMG takes 80% of the cost of a litre of petrol and pisses it away on projects that were never mentioned in their manifesto.

I see from the Torygraph today that the Conservative Party plan to appoint qualified people into all the jobs important to the running of London (Ken's placemen have to leave with him as per a US style administration) and Boris will act as a sort of Chairman of the "Committee". They hope this will avoid any Boris style cock-ups coming back to haunt them at the General Election.
