Statins : Don't get me started  cussing:

I have taken this "wonder drug" for years. Makes me ache (like flu), makes me miserable, makes me depressed. So they gave me painkillers, they gave me a psychotherapist, they gave me Valium. They gave me more statins , progressing to ever more "aggressive" varieties and larger doses. Finally I said "Enough is enough" and asked one sympathetic doctor to go back through the notes (Oh how they hate having to actually read the notes rather than just add to them!) In all the time of increased dosage and the deployment of more "aggressive" varieties my cholesterol level had not dropped at all. That is over a period of ten years! So the sympathetic Doctor said "What do you think we should do?" and I replied reduce the statin to the lowest possible dose and see if that makes all my aches and pains go away. In the main it worked. I now take just 10mg Simvastatin a day supplemented with 10mg Ezetimibe (which attacks the cholesterol problem from a different angle) and all doctors at Cardiac Clinic and Diabetes Clinic and GPs practice are AMAZED that my cholesterol levels are, at long last, "Good". All thanks to a sensible (ie non brainwashed) old fashioned locum brought out of retirement for a few weeks to solve a shortage of GPs when most of the practice went down with the flu.

"Detox. My insulin levels are out of whack."

1. DON'T EVER use that 'D' word in my presence.   cussing:
I detest it with an overwhelming deep and passionate hatred, at levels previously unknown to humanity. cussing:

2. What the hell does "out of whack" mean, or is this some new medical expression that some how seems to have passed me by? ::)
Title: Re: Chocolate withdrawl
Post by: Snoopy on April 18, 2008, 10:12:01 AM
"Out of whack" means the same as "out of kilter" i.e. Not functioning as they should. In this context Wenchy means that her insulin levels are not within acceptable parameters.
The body, specifically the Pancreas, produces insulin, insulin uses up surplus blood sugars (ie those blood sugars not consumed in the form of energy which the body then attempts to store as fat).
Produce too much insulin and you will suffer from:
Hyperglycemia ~ typical symptoms would include  Polyphagia - frequent hunger, especially pronounced hunger, Polydipsia - frequent thirst, especially excessive thirst, Polyuria - frequent urination, especially excessive urination, Blurred vision, Fatigue, Weight loss, Poor wound healing (cuts, scrapes, etc.), Dry mouth, Dry or itchy skin  Impotence (male), Recurrent infections such as vaginal yeast infections, groin rash, or external ear infections (swimmer's ear), Kussmaul hyperventilation: deep, rapid breathing,  Cardiac arrhythmia, Stupor, Coma
Produce too little insulin and you will suffer from:
Hypoglycaemia ~ typical symptoms would include: Nervousness, Fainting, Feeling dizzy or confused, Hunger, Confusion and trouble thinking clearly, Headaches and vision changes, Mood changes and Sweating.

Ultimately both conditions, if untreated, can lead to heart damage, gangrene in lower limbs and sudden death.

Sensible self treatment would be to reduce those foods which increase blood sugar levels ~ for example stopping eating chocolate..

Boring and not a rant I know but you did ask.

So many questions. Mr Wench hasn't dropped his "Mam" because (i) he is Welsh (ii) you keep him up to the mark and (iii) his domestic circs, growing up, were different.
Your brother is simply being a typically thoughtless boy who will become even more so if you continue to nag him about it ALSO You do not provide him with the leg over opportunities  .... remember  sick2:

My BiL is a bit like that toward his sisters and mother. Mind when Mrs S#2 and I bought our first flat (before she was Mrs S and was Mrs Somebody-Else) he turned up to help us move in. He was carrying in one hand a stunning girl, who neither of us had ever seen before, and in the other carrier bag containing a litre of Gordons Gin, two bottles of tonic and a bag of ice ~ he had a lemon in his pocket. A man with the right priorities I thought. We only unpacked enough boxes to locate the glasses that evening. redface:

Is he the short bodied or the short legged variety? I have noticed that they come in either sort. Some even seem taller when sitting down  eeek:. They don't actually "hinge" in the middle like normal people.

I don't know! I've never really paid that much attention!

His Mum is little legged though.

Walk behind him sometime. When he crosses the road you'll soon notice if his arse almost touches the kerb when he steps into the road. Then you'll know he is the short legged variety.

Something I never thought I'd see mentioned when talking about the Welsh  whistle:

Any other oxymorons whilst we're at it.

'Tis karma Growler my dear for boasting about them!

Is it really considered acceptable for sons to dump their families in favour of the girlfriends/wifes?

Growler jnr/snr has done just that to me. evil:
Didn't come around to see his little step brother and sister over Easter 'cus " I had my girlfriend with me all over the holiday, and you've banned her from your place"
So? Bin her for a few hours, or preferably for ever, and get your arse around here. Your step sister has just spent 2 bloody hours designing and writing an Easter card for you.
We're still waiting. cussing:

Found the bloody time to go 'round for dinner at her bloody families dump though.
My piss actually combusted on this occassion. eeek:

I was actually in a fairly good mood this evening UNTIL I read this thread again. cussing:

Sorry Big G but sons is like that .... 'specially when there's second families involved. My eldest lad was 40 on April 1st .... neither Mrs S#1 nor I have had a birthday or Christmas card or present from him since we decided he was old enough to buy his own without us doing it for him. We (his parents) made this decision when he passed 18 and had left home for a flat of his own. When he reached thirty we decided that if he wasn't going to bother then neither would we and I stopped sending him cards and pressies. He has never acknowledged his half sister or brothers. He has not spoken to me unless he wanted something from me (usually money or to be dug out of the sh*t) and he hasn't spoken to his full sister (who lives in the same town as him) for over fifteen years. I understand he sees his mother once a year and then only after she phones him several times to push him into it. Ask him why and he just shrugs his shoulders and mumbles. I have long since given up all hope of seeing him again. When I have been really ill and in hospital I have forbidden Mrs S from telling him. His sister has said that it's him or her at my funeral and wants me to make the choice. No contest ..... I'd rather neither had to come to it but he will NOT be told about it until after the event.
Live with it mate ..... that's sons for you. Fortunately I made my peace with my parents before it was too late and really enjoyed the last few years of their lives seeing them often and having a pint with me dad every Sunday lunchtime. Perhaps you can work it out that way eventually too, I hope so, but from experience I'd say don't push for it or he'll move further away not closer.

I'm fairly confident that Growler jnr is NOT going to be like that. He is actually very considerate and caring for a mid teenager, and hates and depises most things that I hate and despise. eeek:
Mrs G claims he's a clone of me.  cloud9:

Done something right then....in my eyes. ::)
