I've said it before and it probably wont be the last time:
YOU HAVE TO BE REALLY STUPID TO GET RUN OVER BY A TRAIN
Train hits woman trapped on line (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/7318821.stm)
The telling part, while the barriers were down.
-
Just when you think that Darwin has finally retired... whistle:
-
Reading between the lines that must have been an awful experience for the two blokes trying to help her. cry:
-
Essex???? She would have been in sling backs, how hard would that be to take her foot out of? Prolly didn't want to put down her matching white handbag to unbuckle the ankle strap.
-
Reading between the lines that must have been an awful experience for the two blokes trying to help her. cry:
I agree that it would have been a horrendous experience for her companions but I have to ask how stupid (or come to think of it, pissed) do you have to be do try and cross when the barriers are down?
-
It reports she got her foot stuck in wooden slats. If the crossing is the same design as my local crossing then she wasn't even on the crossing but off at one edge.
-
The plot thickens:
Man remanded over crossing death (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/7330146.stm)

Do you reckon he nailed her shoe to the track then? rubschin:

Do you reckon he nailed her shoe to the track then? rubschin:
No, confused her by putting her handbag between the rails.

No, confused her by putting her handbag between the rails.
I can see that emptying her handbag between the rails would take about five hours to recover… whistle:

It was Essex, she would just start to dance round it.

Of course… doh: they no doubt found her white stilettos at the side of the track… whistle:

But that was on March 28th... most of us can't remember... um what was I about to say? rubschin:

More twists to the plot:
Train victim 'was due in court' (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/7336652.stm)
Proper little soap opera this one.

That tiny, tiny drop of remorse I had at taking the p155 out of the girl is now gone. ;D

Yet another incident!
Two hit and killed by 80mph train (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7347975.stm)
This happened two stops down the line from me this morning. The odd thing is the timing as the train I caught this morning was the one after the 6:18 from Cambridge. So it shouldn't have got through. rubschin:
Whatever the reason at least I got in on time this morning.

I just wish he'd stop beating about the bush and say what he really thinks ;)

I'd imagine he's not much of a "people person". Not a bad thing though.
He sort of reminds me of me, but I would never drive a Skoda, so the simiarlarities end there. And I went to the BETTER Grammar school in the area, a point that I make regularly to annoy him...
-

Badge snob. ::) You ever driven one, and I'm not talking Estelle here?
-
Sorry Growler, I only drive a Lexus. With over tinted glass. Makes me look like a gangster, innit.
My old friend up the road with all the classic motorcycles drives a Skoda - a vRS thing. Not a bad bit of kit at all.
But I drive a car to get from A to B. My old bus is entirely devoid of character or passion and the three litre engine sucks too much unleaded. But it is sooooo boring. Comfy, never go wrong and a great stereo.
When I want thrills, the GSXR750 comes out...and my limited brain melts.

Man denies level crossing death (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/7556236.stm)
I'd forgotten about this.
It's a shame the train that ran the woman over didn't have the infamously slow 'wheels of justice' fitted. She could have got clear. confused:
-
Crossing death accused in court (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/7827003.stm)
-
Hang Him! cussing:
-
Not Guilty (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/7867322.stm)
Fair enough. I found this interesting though:
CCTV of rail death woman (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/7829444.stm)
It's amazing how many CCTV images of a random member of the public can be found if need be.
-
I've been to our CCTV centre which has got literally hundreds of cameras and it is amazing how much detail you can get from them - although why that never transpires on news footage when they are showing a suspect I'll never understand.
It's great entertainment to sit there for a few hours and watch the world at its worst and follow any characters of interest whistle:
-
Having been involved in the tendering for and subsequent operation of many such systems in several Town Centres, large arenas and industrial/commercial/business parks I could bore the arse off you with a long explanation as to why you do not see more of this on TV but in simple terms a CCTV system is only a tool, one of many in the law enforcement armoury. Data Protection and Publishing Images without permission come into it but the most important reason the public do not get to see more of these immages is contained in what are known as "Judges Rules" rendering any images so used inadmissable as evidence in any later court cases/appeals etc.
-
And yet, how come when any felon round here is supposedly caught on CCTV there's insufficient evidence to confirm an ID? ::)
-
Bm installed the cameras?

And yet, how come when any felon round here is supposedly caught on CCTV there's insufficient evidence to confirm an ID? ::)
Usually because the Judge will not allow the images so recorded to stand alone as evidence but demands that some other means of identification is offered in support of the CCTV images. Many appeals have been allowed because of the potential to alter images. Like I said CCTV is only one tool in the box. Having IDed your suspect from his picture you still have to prove the case against the individual. Trust me ~ I have been ripped apart in court by too many lawyers not to know.

I almost knew the answer the minute I hit the send post key redface: We hand over tapes, or used to - it's now digital, quite regularly to the local plod but even when they can see a suspect it's very difficult to get a positive ID.
