Title: New Year's Honours
Post by: Snoopy on December 29, 2007, 07:45:30 AM
Usual crop of people who have reached the "top" of their chosen field ~ some may have given some benefit to the nation, most have not. Oh and Michael Parkinson ~ presumably for services to cartoon stereotypes of Yorkshire Folk.
What a crock of shite this whole annual farce has become.

How much do you have to contribute to the Queen's luxurious lifestyle and supporting useless children fund to receive one of these anyway ??????

Nothing at all ~ all contributions go to Labour party coffers. HM sees none of it and in fact the whole thing, tho' done in her name, is controlled by Gordon Brown.  ::)

But it would just be more brass behind the bar that would need dusting etc - along with the Olympic medallions et al.

I'm sure he wouldn't want us to refer to him as Sir - he already has our utmost respect and reverence lol:

Indeed ~ I know for a fact he is enormously proud of his "Bar Steward of the Year" award.

Honours are usually granted by one of three routes;
(i) In exchange for cash
(ii) In exchange for years of studious arse licking
(iii) As a sop to the popular press by giving them to a lolipop lady /dinner lady/popular actor/sportsman etc.

I have never yet met anyone granted an "honour" who did not fall into one of these categories.

One question that occurs:- Was Kylie awarded hers because of the quality of her singing, the quality of her acting or the fact that she had Breast Cancer and survived it. I think we all know the answer to that one don't we.

Not at all Unc ~ as stated elsewhere I turned it down when it was offered for "Services to the Community" a little over a year ago. The approach to guage one's receptiveness usually comes via the Constituency Office and, if you indicate that you would be inclined to accept, your name is put forward. Lot's of tapping of noses (Del Boy fashion) with these Nu Labour b@st@rds and talk of "Rewarding Community Service" and promises of visits to Number 10 etc. They actually seemed quite surprised when I told them where to put it.

So which category would you place yourself in seeing as somebody wanted to grant you an honour?

As one involved in community voluntary work I was the intended token sop to popular opinion.
