Title: Big hole at 'The Swamp'
Post by: GROWLER on October 13, 2007, 06:41:04 PM
Doh!

doh: Just managed to get not one, but two bloody cars stuck in a hole I've just dug at 'The Swamp.
Kept digging like a bloody ferret, thinking, I'll just dig a bit deeper to make it more of a challenge.
I succeeded. ::)

When your in a deep hole and covered in shit, STOP DIGGIN'.

Wise words indeed.  Even wiser ~ stop digging just before the hole is too deep.

Is there a mathmatical equation to werk out when you've reached the point of needing to stop.
On reflection a 4' trough was p'raps being a tad over ambitious.

Wonder i didn't snap the bloody suspension tbh.  eeek:

I am officially barking now imo. noooo:

Personally I've always found that when the shit reaches my chin it is time to stop.

And now I'm off to watch the Rugby.

Yea, i'm glad too. Don't like crying in front of an audience. sad32:

Fortunately, GROWLER jnr hitched up and between us we managed to drag the Landy out with the accompanying smell of burning clutch, then i promptly turned the tow car around and drove straight back into said hole. evil:

NOT one of my brightest moments, and the sky matched my mood. Nearly black. evil:

I think I know where I went wrong on the 'construction' side of things, and will go back tomorrow to ammend the layout.

You might get a phone call for further help. whistle:

So - we buggered off in the "Nick" of time eh?

Phew,

I reckon yous wuz planning on burying me next time   scared2:

Seriously, We had a really pleasant afters there and I was pleased to meet such a nice bloke (and his gear)  cloud9:

We'll be BACK!

In Koper. some years back I remember it was so bloody muddy that we had about thirty-odd artics all chained together to drag that last few stuck motors out of that swamp to the road which was on the other side of the field.  And we were all supposed to have been on a boat to Tartous inside the hour!

Great fun it was too, most of us woke up passing Greece with enormous headaches after dreaming of mud whilst pissed.

I can't even use the excuse of it being muddy. It was bone dry in fact. I simply dug too bloody deep, and ended up with the car leaning over at about 45 degrees with the rear n/s wheel virtually off the ground ::)

As I discussed with you yesterday p.m., I wonder if my familiarity with 'The Swamp' is breeding a bit of contempt with the place?
I personally don't see it as being much of a challenge now, hence the reason for the 'new feature'. Heaven help me/us if I DO manage to get hold of a JCB as I was suggesting I needed.

No, Google image of nearly the right model. I have no computer pictures to hand.

Turkeys no, but turnips don't dig themselves up you know, the Poles are all working as plumbers and we sent all our own serfs to the Somme. noooo:

I immedately realised why all this happened. it sort of came to me in a bloody flash of brilliance.... you have managed to dig a magnetic hole! A sort of baby black hole, if I was you you I would bung a patent on it mate

As far as you are concerned, practice makes perfect and it's natural to want to keep raising your game.

You'll need the impartial advice of someone not so close or familiar with it to keep objectivity.  ::)  I can't think of anybody that can fulfil that role...  tunble:  eyes:   whistle:

What occurred to me this morning, was to grade the paths around the swamp and number them into routes to follow according to ability, it then becomes desirable to work up to the most difficult by practice and experience.   You can then go all the way to the physical limits with a clear conscience.

It will instil a ramp of ambition and improvement in your trainees and something to aim for by hard work and experience it will also eliminate the PC praise because either they will be able to do it or their won't.  A nice certificate for the top achievers.  Plain as day to everybody and wholly fair.
