Title: USA Mid term elections
Post by: Steve on November 09, 2022, 10:19:22 AM
Not looking good for either Biden or Trump as the Democrats look certain to lose the House and Trump's favoured candidates fare not so well (and his bête noir de Santis very much does).

IMHO a good thing as the USA deserves better than either of them from 2024

Oh and ref this rant (https://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/index.php?topic=14973.msg745267#msg745267), recovering stroke victim Fetterman won defeating Trump man Oz

Hardly a rant Steve, more a simple case of human decency for being concerned about someone's health. Fetterman's performance during the debate (not just stumbling over words but only being able to understand what was being said after it had been transcribed for him) was enough to cause a legitimate concern for his health and his ability to recover while dealing with the stresses of being in office. Personally while I don't agree with a lot of his positions I think he seems to be a decent person but would have been better off keeping in the public eye and waiting till the next election to stand.

Mind you given that the Democrats managed to re-elect Anthony DeLuca to the House of Representatives with 85% of the vote despite the fact that he died on the 9th of October I'm not overly surprised.

meantime looks like the GOP has won the House just (by about 8 seats) and the Senate will go to a winner takes all run off vote in Georgia as Arizona leans Dem and next door Nevada leans GOP

I wouldn't bet on it, the man and his more swivel eyed supporters live in denial.

A telling point will be if the more de Santis aligned Republicans in the new GOP led House decide to work with the Dems to continue either the Jan 6th investigations or the Ways and Means investigation into Trump's tax returns.   Either of those could destroy Trump but similarly could also destroy any GOP representatives that so vote if Trump comes out of them exonerated.

Another disaster for Trump and his followers as Kari Lake one of the strongest advocates of the 'Stolen Election' lie loses in the Arizona governor race.

And it's now confirmed that the Republicans have won control of the House (of Representatives) which means Biden is almost a complete lame duck for 2 years

And also the likely end of Nacy Pelosi's long career as a front line politician.  Another symbol of the time for a new generation of leaders.

Confirmed as she announces she's stepping down
