In 1972, when I was 17, some friends and I got a job strawberry picking in the Cotswolds. We lived in tents at the bottom of the strawberry field. For a month. In the summer.
We had no toilets. We had no means of washing except for a churn of cold water the farmer brought down once a week.
We had no means of washing clothes
We cooked stuff from tins over an open fire.
One night a mad axeman got loose in the village scared2:
We must have stunk noooo: noooo:
It was a very happy month cloud9:
We went to the 8 Bells in Chipping Campden and drank cloudy cider (6d a pint and then fall over) or the Ebrington Arms
Tomorrow I am meeting one of our number for lunch at the now much posher Ebrington Arms
I wonder if that buxom local lass Dawn Payne is still around? eyes: redface:

A local woman did offer me a bath one night. When I got out I noticed it was black.
Being 17 it did not occur to me to clean it redface:
