You did indeed

Got my 3D printer going again for the first time in the new apartment. Managed to find all the bits and get the software running.  cloud9:

I've been asked if I could help print some 'face mask supports' for the health service.  rubschin:

I reckon it could be a scam, I've no idea why a health care professional would trust their PPE to a (potentially infected) bloke printing stuff in a spare room in Pissouri...? Shrugs:

Nonetheless, it is a challenge and something to do...  Thumbs:

So I printed a pile of bits yesterday.

When I asked how the medical service could accept something from a bloke in Pissouri without knowing they were safe I was told that they would sanitise them first...

...but then I asked if they could sanitise them why would they chuck them away after one use and hence need some bloke in Pissouri to print them...? Shrugs:
Good point well made

It's going to depend on what chemicals are used in the sanitisation process, it could be that the plastic used for 3d printing can only handle being exposed to them once or twice.

So you weren't pointing out that that could reuse the plastic parts of existing face masks by disinfecting them?

Bear in mind that most of the stuff is manufactured in China and a lot of it is getting sent back for being of crap quality so it wouldn't surprise me to find out that a large percentage of the existing stocks wouldn't survive being sanitised more than a couple of times.

When you say 'a lot of it' you mean the small % of stuff some fool tried buying from unapproved sources

The big problem with Chinese stuff now appears to be your chum Trump is pirating it https://www.ft.com/content/03e45e35-ab09-4892-899d-a86db08a935c

And the sanitising will be an issue for the filter material but that's not the part you can 3D print

Strange, I thought Trump was president of the US not the EU. Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey and Belgium to name but a few have all sent back masks because they were found to be faulty. The Dutch government alone ended up recalling 600,000 FFP2 masks from hospitals after tests showed the masks didn’t fit properly or had defective filter membranes to stop the transmission of the virus not to mention deciding not to use the remaining 700,000 additional masks that made up the rest of the shipment.

So it's OK in your book for Trump to hijack shipments on route from China to Berlin?

No, I'm obviously not fine with it, no sensible person would be. I was clarifying your comment about the returns being a small percentage bought from unofficial sources.

Well do we know that the returns were bought from approved companies?  The first case I researched turned out to have very much not been

The testing kits sent to Spain weren't but as far as I can tell the masks were.

The story about the diverted masks seems to be uncertain.  Trump didn't help though by bragging about seizing 200,000 ventilators the very same day that consignment of 200,000 ventilators got taken by someone on route to the Berlin police

Was that the Kenya shipment? If not then that will be three bound for Germany that have apparently been swiped...  rubschin:
