Don't bet your last farthing she won't get some trivial concession from the EU and come back to the house and squeak it through

As the phrase goes 'a week is a long time in politics' and she's been counted as dead in the water before and survived

It's not like the massed dozens of UKIPers marching in London yesterday put any pressure on her

Ukip was screwed the moment they allowed Tommy Robinson to join, the numbers showing at the protest march have proven that.

If I'm right and May either pushes through her brexit in name only and as long as the EU allow it deal or agrees to a second referendum I can see something similar to the Yellowjacket protests happening over here.

As the European Court of Justice has ruled that the UK can unilaterally revoke its withdrawal from the EU I fear that will be the result with a second referendum being called.
Title: Re: WOW
Post by: Grumpmeister on December 10, 2018, 06:17:15 PM
It would fit with everything we have seen so far Mort, drag out a pathetic 'attempt' at negotiation which would clearly screw us over until May 'gives in to pressure' and calls a second referendum by which time planned media coverage has shifted enough opinion to tip the balance. We end up still stuck in the EU but having lost the rebate and the veto.

I still think that's the less likely route forward but its chances have certainly increased.  Faced with the polls as they are I can see the Rees-Mogg ERG deciding to vote for the deal while planning to oust May mid 2019 and then try to renege on the deal.

As for the court ruling I was surprised but having read the judgement I can see the logic (it all hinges on the word 'intention').  What does it change?  Not much but might increase the chances of an extension to the Article 50

Yes, I can see that happening although once we're in the transition period, which I assume is legally binding, reneging may be a problem.

Yep as I understand it we'd be in all sorts of legal distress but it's what the ERG think now and next that'll matter when this actually does get to a vote in the house

It is a puzzle because essentially they are criticising her for not winning a game of poker having dealt her a very weak hand.  I rather suspect some of the EU-27 hopes she goes and they get to seriously humiliate Boris when he turns up in Brussels with his 'go whistle' and 'cake and eat it' idiocies

Mrs Corbyn might just be looking at curtain pattern books for #10

From the day dishface Cameron failed to get any concessions from the EU and then Leave won the referendum, there was only ever going to be one outcome = a No Deal Brexit.

The EU were never going to allow any member to actually be in control of their own destiny as it flies in the face of their EU monobloc dream utopia.

A 2nd referendum would see the end of the Tory Party, the end of the Labour Party and the end of Westminster.

And the public would still vote Leave.

Tempting, isn't it?

C/O Old Holborn.

It would depend on the wording of the referendum. If there was only a choice between remaining in the EU or taking May's deal then all bets are off  rubschin:

If Old Holborn told me tomorrow was Sunday I'd go check

I still believe she'll get that god awful deal through the house as the ERG group and DUP will do anything to avoid a remain outcome.that the polls now say is way ahead of leave.  But plenty of time for more spilt milk to run under the bridge

It's a bad deal but I think it will get voted in because of the fearmongering put around concerning a no deal exit.

Whatever happened to "no deal is better than a bad deal" to quote our dear Prime Minister?

You mean our dear remainer Prime Minister? If the details of the deal that have come to light are accurate and the transition period can be extended to 20xx, not to mention the 27 member rule over the backstop, then as far as she is concerned this deal is gold for her as we are still stuck as part of the EU while she can claim that she has delivered brexit and in her delusion satisfy both sides of the argument.

She was never a remain prime minister, she was never a remain person.  But chose to affect being a remainer because she thought that placed her best to become PM once Cameron left as he had pre promised because she though remain would win

She is a devious cow

Title: Re: WOW

So when is a vote of no confidence NOT a vote of no confidence?  rubschin:
never

but it's not a no confidence in the government vote if it doesn't say so and Corbyn's motion doesn't say so.  So it has no constitutional import.  Corbyn went for that vote because the DUP would vote for the government this side of a vote on the deal but they might not vote for May.  And the intent was to flush that out.
