I bought one of these (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0154GFXXI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)...
Stuck it on the back of the tellybox and plugged it into a free USB port...
So it comes on when you switch the tellybox on and goes off when you switch it off...
Dramatically increases the contrast ratio (if you are watching in a fairly dark room) and is highly recommended...
Well worth six quid!

rubschin: surely by adding extra light it just causes your Irises to narrow and reduce the image quality

Tellybox is wireless so apart from the mains cable and a HDMI from the DVD player this installation is marvellously clutter free... cloud9:

Frankly there could be two Turkish towns hidden there and a bonus Greek one too. It is effing chaos with
- two Sky boxes
- two DVD players
- one DVD recorder
- one Freeview PVR
- ye olde TiVo
- Apple TV
- Amazon Firey stick
- music device and speakers
- remote control extenders
- wiring so it nigh on all routes to 4 other rooms
SO
Is this wireless option multichannel HDMI?

Well, the tellybox is wireless...
So it links wirelessly to my QNAP NAS which I stream content from...
...it also has a 'Chrmecast' built-in so I can stream stuff from my laptop or phone...
Plus it has YouTube, Netflix and numerous other IPTV apps built-in....
Cyprus TV is (understandably) shite so the aerial is not connected...
Just the DVD player that needs to be wired and that connects wirelessly to my network and NAS so I suspect if I thought about it I could remove that HDMI cable too... rubschin:

rubschin: what’s the fan noise like?
But a central server system looks more focussed on downloaded content. We’re more live TV and Sky recordings people

Can't hear this one at all... can sleep in the same room as it...
But yea, I *koff* download all of our content apart from stuff we watch on YouTube, etc.

Ah
Call me what you like but we try to be squeaky clean on fillums and music so it tends to get recorded in ways that can’t be transferred to a file server
Mrs K is talking of recarpetting the room (well paying someone to do it) and that will mean total destruction of the wiring mess so I may completely re-engineer it this year. Problem is it all goes in a corner and not on wheels so there is no rear access to do proper tidy wiring

The only thing you can get legally here is...
1) Cyprus TV
2) A limited version of Netflix
3) Ummm....
All the expats use illegal IPTV boxes... we used to have mahoosive Sky dishes (subscription paid directly to Sky but still strictly illegal) but they changed the satellite footprint so even a 3m dish can't pick it up...
BBC is chasing down the VPN services that let locals watch iPlayer too... noooo:

So moving to smugland is a swings and roundabouts decision then
Now to be fair if given that choice I’d likely go illegal too. I’m amazed Sky ever did reach Cyprus and yes they focus their signal to noise ratio on UK and Ireland

When we came in 2002 you could get the full Sky package on a 1.8m dish albeit with a very weak signal (heavy rain would make it drop out)...
Then they tweaked it and you needed a minimum of 2.7m in the West and 3m+ was better...
Then it went completely... noooo:
Luckily, I got pissed off with Paying Sky AND suffering interminable adverts and sold the whole lot (dish, Sky + boxes, etc.) for a pretty penny a year or so before it went... cloud9:
The dishes just have scrap value now... lol:
