Title: What's this blue line then?
Post by: GROWLER on September 05, 2007, 10:29:21 PM
Got a very thin pale blue line running vertically down the screen, and it's getting right on my tits tbh.
What is it? Is the screen goosed p'raps then? ::)
Been like this for weeks now, but it's not got any worse...or better.

It's a flat screen LCD thing if that helps.

Only 3 years old too ffs. evil:

I picked up a decent second hand monitor from a place at Bromborough (on that big retails park) for ?25 when my screen died similarly last year.

Stuff is so cheap now... just junk the old one and get a new one with warranty. Even better, get a new PC and get a 'free' monitor.  whistle:

Not if you havent done so, I've known odd display problems happen on systems where the wrong drivers have been installed by mistake.

Having said that if you check your graphics card and download the latest drivers for it it, it wont do your system any harm and may fix the blue line if it isnt a buggered monitor. Try www.guru3d.com (http://www.guru3d.com)

Never actually did this. Apologies after all your help too. redface:]

However, after talkin' to a mate of mine yesterday, he reckons it's probably just some of the pixels not werkin' proper like, and will probably be fixed by downloading something and leaving it to mend itself over approx 12 hours...retuning the pixels or summat? confused:

Is this what your link is all about? had a look, but it's a mighty big web page. Which bit do i need to load?

Just go to pixelsRus and buy some more. Drop them into the back of your monitor like little bits of confetti. That should fix it.

Sounds like a couple of blocked pixel jets to me. Only the blue pixels are getting through.

Simple solution is to pop the whole monitor in the dishwasher for a couple of cycles.

Don’t listen to him Growler – pixelsRus are shite… I tried them once but the monitor blocked completely.  noooo:

You really have to buy your pixels from the company that made the monitor – they are a bit more expensive but they work better… sorry they werk better like.  happy088

You got sensible answers but chose to eschew them, now you moan about a few comments about apples. noooo:

Where else would you have learned that Wench enjoys a nice juicy cox, possibly a reversal of the old tradition, wherby the teacher gives her one instead?

These role reversals are where Society as we know it is starting to come undone, and all you worry about is a lack of red and green pixels.  Banghead

A three-year-old screen is most likely to have given up on the pixel switching - that is changing colour on demand.  It is the worst problem on LCD screens.

A few checks.

Are there any times when it is not there?

Like when the computer is starting up and Windows is not yet running or when it is closing down?

At these times Windows (bless 'em) use a default driver and not the graphics card that is in use for the rest of the time and this would show up a graphics problem.

Can you temporally connect your monitor to another computer?
If so and the problem is gone - come back for more details.

If problem is still there - monitor is hosed... Tough.

Well, I still think your best bet is to plug it into another computer and see if the fault migrates with it.  That will be the acid test.
