It's definitely happening and is not confined to teenage girls. It is a mad extension of Political Correctness. Fortunately, Miss I will have none of such nonsense. In a recent discussion we agreed that shock is invariably a feigned reaction designed to make the alleged shockee look pure and moral.

I've seen some signs of it down here when dealing with students on occasion, fortunately the majority of them that I've come across so far seem to have a good head on their shoulders and enjoy a decent debate without any of this false indignation shite.  My worry is that if this is going to be the state of future generations then we are totally buggered.  noooo:

The current generation has never had wars, plagues or starvation to get upset about, so they have to invent something.

I am thankful that my children, unlike theirs, were never troubled by concern over the type of trainers they wore or being called non-PC names.

We are indeed doomed.

As you say "the majority of them that I've come across so far seem to have a good head on their shoulders"

Daily Mail is only interested in 'man bites dog' stories.  Most of their readers think that's too high brow so prefer 'immigrant bites starlet's dog'

The "Equalities Manager"  ::)  at Scunthorpe complained that we did not use enough images of disabled students in publicity. I explained that almost all the students pictured were deaf  angel1

I will point out that the students I come have had contact with down here are either marine engineers or art students so neither group is likely to have been in the kind of 'safe zone' debate that is becoming increasingly common on other courses. I have unfortunately seen it with students who have been studying things like Sociology and most worryingly in the more recent groups of student nurses.
