Over lunch my friend was talking about her kids (she has 3). They had a certain amount of sibling rivalry and a tendency to play pranks on one another. When the youngest turned 18 the two older ones produced a box containing a birthday cake. The legend on top read "You are adopted"

This cast a slight chill over the proceedings, allied with some uncomfortable anxiety. After much reassurance and cuddling the youngest was finally pacified and the party continued.

The two older ones then announced, "it's OK, we got you another cake". When the box was opened this one displayed the legend, "No, you really ARE adopted."
