I strung him along for 11 minutes while bizzy doing something else, but what scam is this?
Summat about lots of malware on my computer and he gives me details of a programme to run whcih will sort out my pooter?

Did they claim to be from Microsoft...?
Quite common I think - either hack into your PC or get your bank details for an upgrade or summat....
i trust you didn't download/install anything he suggested...?

The standard con is they ask you to look at the System log - which will always be full of irrelevant errors and then direct you to a website to download some malware.
We've never managed to keep them going for 20 minutes at their expense, they usually ring off when we say we haven't got a Windows computer but say it says something like Commode 64 on the label.

I had one of those calls a while back, managed to keep it going for 35 minutes.
You can string them along for ages by pretending you are typing in what they tell you and it doesn't work, then making them tell you over and over again.
If I remember correctly, the call ended when I asked if I should type 'backslash' in capital letters. whistle:

I had one of those calls a while ago, couldn't resist asking idiot technical questions and playing along before telling him my computer used Linux instead of Windows. whistle:
I got the impression that somebody wasn't very happy after that, it may have been due to me bursting out laughing when he tried to convince me that Microsoft had bought out Linux eveilgrin:
