Title: New cunning cold call tactics
Post by: GROWLER on April 05, 2013, 09:33:16 AM
Bastards are increasingly using recoreded messages now, both on landline and mobby's, presumably so we can't hurl joyful abuse at the call operators now. SCUM! cussing:
3 in the last 24 hours. Banghead

I need a new offensive plan to deal with these parasites. rubschin:

Now THAT would annoy me too.

Fortunately I don't get many cold calls ..... no idea why I am spared other than the word has perhaps spread that I am a grumpy b@st@rd who tales no prisoners

When I do pick up a cold call I always say "I charge £85 per hour or part thereof to share my lifetime of experience ~ will you pay on invoice?"
If they argue I point out I am cheaper than a Barrister.
They always hang up.  eveilgrin:

I only ask for £50; my life obviously not as exciting as yours.

I agree those recorded messages are very annoying.

Not at all Uncle ~ it's just that my life has been going longer than yours.  whistle:

Feeling very frustrated over this.

Had another one this morning, and was just about to launch the 'phone  when I heard the werd Virgin.
Piggin on blower questionaire asking me to confirm tomorrows cables and other such associated shite installation. ::)

30 minutes later they (recorded message) rang back AGAIN, confirming my bloody confirmation! Shrugs:

Have to become a lot more of a problem before I spend the £100 on it. (plus £20 p.a. for the internet option)

I know I've mentioned this in other threads but registering with the TPS is going to be the most effective way of blocking these calls. It will take up to 28 days to become fully effective (depending on how frequently the call centres update their DNC lists) but after that the only ones that should be able to contact you will already have a prior business relationship with you.

TPS registration is number specific so you will have to do each number individually to make sure you are covered. After that, whenever you fill in any application forms or suchlike make sure you read the wording of the tick if you do not wish to receive box to make sure it isn't actually tick if you do. A number of companies use that trick now as very few people actually read the spiel before ticking the box.

If any companies cold call you afterwards I would recommend  telling them you are on TPS and to stop calling you but to also put in a data source request so you can find out where they got the information from. If your details have come from a data supply firm then contact them directly asking why they are giving your number out despite being on TPS and tell them to add you to their suppression list.

I tried telling the recorded message all that this morning, but the bint just kept talkin all over me. evil:

What's even more annoying, is you put the receiver down, and if you want to dial out immidiately, TOUGH PIGGIN' SHIT! Banghead

The pre-recorded shite just carries on, ramblin' away until they've run out of tape. cussing:

She wasn't here, but I asked out loud anyway..."Mrs Growler, would you like to speak to 'Shite Catalouges Ltd"?

noooo: Nah, sorry she doesn't, and would you mind taking us off yer data base system too please, ter wat.

Ta, very impressive

But I don't think it's going to work for us as we have some seriously elderly rellies that get confused just by us answering the phone

Re other posts

TPS used to work, it does not now as these companies just ignore it.  The rarely imposed fines seem to be less than the revenue gained.  Hanging up is no deterrent to these bastards - that's just advanced sucker filtering to them.  Hanging on the line at least costs them something.

I was thinking of some sort of going along with them for a while in an evil plan that starts with them dialling a £40 a minute premium rate line, moves onto all their operators losing everything via identity theft and then their premises being razed to the ground with only their most senior staff suffering nasty deaths

oh yes that'd be good, plus germ warfare and unleashing mutant zombies

Back on what passes for planet earth AFAIK it would not be illegal to superglue their locks using the defence of preventing a greater nuisance
