Title: Raspberry Pi
Post by: Barman on April 04, 2013, 01:52:33 PM
All up-and-running...  cloud9:

A few things I have discovered... actually one thing...

You need a very good quality power supply that produces at least 1A @ 5V. I used a USB charger rated at 550mA and it isn't up to the job (the RP hangs when under load). I've ordered a new charger (£6) and am currently running from my PC USB port which works fine.

I have set it up as a media player using Raspbmc (search for it yourself you lazy sods)... it allows me to stream videos (HD) and music from my file server with no issues...

I have also downloaded FilmON so I can watch any TV channels (SD) for free...

All software = free.

A most excellent little machine....  Thumbs:

It is quite remarkable for the price...

I did download the basic software first which works fine... but I couldn't get it to work in HD on my TV/Monitor (you have to edit a confix.text file, re-boot and re-edit, etc.

I'm sure it can be done but I was looking for a media centre anyway and so downloaded this (http://www.raspbmc.com/). You simply copy it to an SD card on your PC, plu it into the Pi and it configures itself - full HD and everything....

i need to order a little box for it now but for some reason Amazon won't ship them to Cyprus... ::)

Surely even BM has only so much cupboard space
