Title: Any other pipe smokers out there?
Post by: Snoopy on August 01, 2012, 02:35:08 PM
I've smoked a pipe for years but gave it up about 15 years ago. Last year Lil Bruvver, who has never stopped, give me some Capstan Baccy as he said I was looking stressed. One thing led to another and I ended up on roll-up ciggies. Not good for either health or pocket but since Lil Bruv "imports" the baccy not too expensive. The doctors didn't like the idea though.
For my recent birthday Lil Bruvver gave me a couple of pipes ~ A "Falcon" and a beautiful Plumbs "Churchwarden" (that's the long one that Sherlock Holmes smokes in the TV series.) Both a lovely smoke but I couldn't find a baccy locally that I liked. Lil Bruvver once again to the rescue recommended a shop in Shrewsbury so I made enquiries of them and they came up with "Players My Mixture 965". Most excellent cool, long smoking mixture, no tongue burn and pleasant after-taste.
I'd highly recommend anyone who enjoys a pipe to try it. Little more expensive than the normal St Bruno etc but well worth the extra £1 per 50 grms.
Having tried a tin I made enquiries and discovered that Players have recently re-introduced it to the UK market after a gap of some 5 years. Also found an online supplier in London. 5 tins have just arrived 24 hours after placing the order. Excellent service and a splendid smoke.
Anyone else who smokes a pipe should try a tin from "Regal Cigars & Tobacco" North Harrow. www.regalcigars.com/ (http://www.regalcigars.com/)

Ah ~ Now I do enjoy a "King Edward Imperial" but at UK prices there is no way I could afford them. Do sometimes treat myself to a box when I go to Holland but even there they are getting very expensive. I find "Villiger Export Pressed" (they are square ones) an acceptable alternative.

Not that I've noticed but I don't normally hold it in my teeth without a hand supporting the bowl.
