Yesterday Minor, along with the rest of his year group, was called to a "Whole Year Assembly" wherein the Head Teacher spent some 15 minutes giving graphic details of the torture and subsequent "massacre" of a group of Polish Women carried out by the Nazis during WWII. Many children were reduced to tears and Minor had nightmares last night.
When the THW was in the same year (9) they were treated to a lecture on the killing of James Bulger that included details of the "torture" in full ....... even down to which of the toddler's fingers were cut off, before his death, by his killers. Details that were deemed too distressing to be broadcast by the BBC and only emerged at the actual inquest and subsequent trial.
On each occasion the children were then led in prayers of "Forgiveness" and for the souls of those killed.
Irrespective of religious beliefs I cannot see the relevance of these two examples to the "Daily Act of Worship" that the Education Acts require schools to provide.
It seems to me that teachers who happen to be Welsh delight in feeding such morbid and frankly frightening (to kids of 13) details but I am damned if I can see how this fits into their education.
On the subject of inappropriate behaviour by Welsh Teachers, yesterday Minor was informed that unless he was word perfect in reciting from memory a piece of written Welsh he would be awarded a detention today. The boy cannot speak Welsh, has never, before this year, been taught any Welsh and thus clearly needs the "Support and help" that his teachers are supposed to identify and provide. Detention for misbehaviour I can accept but the inability to speak Welsh is hardly misbehaviour in my book. Detentions at this particular school are "awarded" to be served, at the whim of the teacher, either during the lunch break, which means that the child is deprived of their mid-day meal, or at the end of the school day, causing them to miss the school bus and thus either a parent has to turn out to collect their child or the kid has to walk home, causing no end of concern to parents who expect them home at a certain time. No written notice of any detentions are ever sent to the parents .... a clear breach of the rules and carrying with it every chance that a child might accept a lift from someone.... The very thing that the "Bulger" lecture was supposed to be a warning against doing.
I have placed a call to the school and am now awaiting a promised call back from the Head. eveilgrin:

I have, however, obtained the numbers of the Chair of Governors and the Head of Learning at the LEA.

Racial Discrimination is not recognised in Wales IF it is discrimination against white English born people. Be a different matter if we wuz coloured.
They (The Welsh) believe that we are the oppressors and that they are the oppressed.
They actually teach this as FACT. cussing:
I am however going to pull the Discrimination Card against a child with obvious needs that teachers are supposed to identify and give additional support for.
In the same class yesterday one child, fresh from a French lesson where they had been instructed to try to use a French accent, applied this instruction to his bit of Welsh speaking and was thrown out of the class for "Taking the mickey" out of the teacher's accent. Needless to say this twat of a teacher is from South Wales where the accent is very different from the local one.
The man needs a firm talking to by his managers. In RAF parlance "An interview without coffee and biscuits" is called for.

Going back to the THW's days in that school the "Schools Police Liaison Officer" gave a lecture on "Stranger Danger" during which he mentioned that anyone seen watching their house could be planning to abduct them. The THW was so scared by this that in the end we had to move her to a back bedroom (swapped with one of the boys) before we could get through a night without her coming into our room to tell us she had seen someone watching the house from across the road. That particular policeman is still doing the rounds of the schools but has been "given advice by a senior officer" after I complained.
The problem is that these people just don't think before they open their mouths. angry041:
Woodstock comments that around 50% of the students she is teaching on both A level and Access to Higher Education courses in College have been "damaged" by the local schools and much of her time, along with her fellow lecturers, is taken up in trying to repair the damage. It is a subject of much debate in their staffroom as they identify the problems and work out strategies to help them get past the implanted wrong ideas.

Woodstock plans to use the unpreparedness of students as her PhD thesis. All will be revealed in that but I am not about to subject the boys to bullying by their teachers by naming names at this time.

Give 'em hell Snoops but don't use the word 'Welsh' in any of your 'discussions' otherwise they'll dismiss everything you say as racial discrimination.

Apologies have now been received from Head of Learning (Year9) ~ detentions have been cancelled and the teacher in question is to be advised as to his responsibilities regarding "Identifying the individual needs of each pupil, using varied teaching styles whilst keeping those needs in mind and providing support rather than threats to those with an identified need"
See ~ All nicely extracted from the "Teaching Handbook" and no mention of the bloody Welsh. angel1
Apologies also if the lad was upset by the lecture on Nazi Torture to a year group of 13 year olds. The man even accepted my point that some of the nasty little sods other pupils would see the lecture as a lesson in how to torture their classmates. He said he too thought that the head had overstepped the mark when he saw many of the children crying as they left the Hall at the end of the assembly and questioned them as to why they were upset. He had not been present himself but as he also said "You know what MR XXXXXX is like" to which I replied "Indeed I do, I know a rampant God botherer when I see one".
I think we shall leave it there for the time being.
