Indeed it is.

People I speak to seem to have decided that Cameron is Blair Lite, Millipede is a waste of space and I have yet to find anyone with a good word to say about Balls. Clegg and Osborne are two cheeks of the same arse.

Politics in Wales are and always have been odd, but the Welsh Assembly seems to have morphed from a Welsh Assembly to the Welsh Assembly Government and now call themselves the Welsh Government. Quite how and when this happened in the 11 years since we moved here I don't know but it has happened (as their headed paper demonstrates). They have also taken a very "Westminster turn" and now give every appearance of seeing themselves as a ruling class to the manor born. Careers are being carved out of being part of what is in fact not much more than a large County Council.

In both Cardiff and London we seem to have people more interested in playing politics than in sorting out the mess that no one will ever convince me is not a direct result of the policies of Brown and Balls with a deal of help from the unelected rulers in Brussels.

But to return to the mood of the country ..... most people, outside of the media, don't seem to give a twopenny fart about any of it. I suppose this is because they have a ready made excuse for whatever they do or don't do. Rather like children in school being told daily of their rights but not a word about their responsibilities they are good at telling you their entitlements but nary a word about what they are prepared to put in. JFK hit it right when he said "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country"

There is a scene in the film "The Battle of Britain" where crowds are gathered in a tube station sheltering from an air raid and an old boy wanders along complaining "They've got the Rose & Crown .... They've got the Rose & Crown". His sole focus is on the fact that his local has been bombed ~ he can imagine nothing worse. Much the same here ~ people are concerned only with the immediate, with their own problems and they have no idea what to do next. Charles Moore is right ... Leadership is what is needed but it is, I'm afraid, sadly lacking.
