Title: Locks
Post by: Darwins Selection on January 25, 2012, 12:42:24 PM
Went to get in my car this morning, usual whirr-clunk all round, but the drivers door won't open, all the others do.

Lock/unlock a few times, still the same. Plant ear on drivers door, same noises within, but locked.

Curse, clamber over passenger seat and drive to dealership.

Man comes out to look, performs same tricks I did, sucks teeth.

Man:"Looks like your wireless central locking control module"
DS:"So why does it make the usual noises inside all the doors? Surely it is a mechanical problem?"
Man:"Never heard of that before, the module is about £1000"
DS:"And when you discover it isn't that but something come adrift inside the door?"
Man:"We have to cut the door off and replace it,  eeek: £1500 + labour+paintwork"
DS:(Pale)"I will bring it in tomorrow"

Or just use the passenger door and perform the gear hurdle shuffle  from now on  whistle:

What car is it?

I hesitate to suggest this but have you tried using the actual key rather than the remote?
Alternatively what about the internal lock/unlock button on the dash or even simply yanking the door handle on the driver's door from the inside? All these work on My Free Lander which is prone to clunk/click but no open zee door. After a few goes at any and/or all the foregoing it corrects itself and behaves for a few weeks.

Thank you Snoopy. I have tried all those permutations I'm afraid.

All the signs are that some part of the mechanism has come adrift inside the door.

I think you've kind of missed the point. It's the door on his Range Rover that's gubbered - not his 4 legged transport.

4x4 - not 4 legged.
